I know you can buy aftermarket 3rd gen rallye clusters in black, but did Chrysler offer them as an option? I have seen a couple, but maybe they were painted by the owners.

As far as I know, they did not. They were always woodgrained. If there were black ones, I'd love to see 'em.

Never, and I have never seen one.

I saw one this Spring at the Farmington, MN show. You could see the woodgrain in the plastic. I wish the owner was by the car, so I could ask if it was painted. I'm thinking it was. It looked good! I'm swapping my standard cluster for a Rallye, and everything else in the interior is black. Well, except for the console plate that I will also be installing.I want to keep things looking as correct as possible.

Black rallye cluster was never a factory option from Chrysler. I have seen several painted black over the years and I suspect that was the case with the one you saw in Farmington.

I'd like to see someone do it in wrinkle finish or Organisol. It would hide the grain and look like something Chrysler would have possibly done. They did do some ac inserts in black but they came with the sweep speedos and usually in the Coronets.

Not quite the same, but I've just painted my cluster and covered the side panels in red leatherette. The wood grain on my cluster seemed to be a cheap paint effect and was in poor condition to start. Happy with the result but was a fiddly masking job to keep all the black inserts. Very nice. Goes well with exterior. Bob

Thanks, I understand not everyone wants to paint their dash as there's no going back. Mine was in a shocking state though so I had nothing to lose.
