And 4W is still the limit, from what I read. And yes, we had several power mics. Was the requirement to have a license in all states? We would walk into radio shack, buy a cb and hook it up. I never heard about any requirement to have a license.

Yes, it was an FCC rule. A license was not required to purchase the equipment, as far as I can recall. But this goes back a few years.

I seem to remember the license info came with the operators manual. But who reads those right? Mine was KBCB 9665. Handle-Shotgun angel (name of a song). Why in the world I can remember that but can't remember what I had for breakfast somedays.

KWO-0314 here, got my license in the 74-75 time. I had it in my 74 Dodge Charger and would often bring my table top power mic with me and sit it beside me on my split bench seat. I could talk then without raising the mic to my mouth! I still have a small ring on my trunk lid of my charger to this day from the antennae rubber gasket.

I dont remember a license either, but I do remember my handle "Aces Wild". First had a CB in my Dad's 73 Polara and then moved it over to my 72 Charger.....I honestly don't think I had a conversation on it....still got.it somewhere.

Things I need to remember I forget. But this worthless piece of 40 year old trivia is still kicking around in my head. I guess because we called it out every time we signed off. We had one license for the family, and I never had my own handle...just used my brothers when he wasn't on! His was Cactus Patch...he liked Cactus as a kid. Our Parrish priest had a license and spent time on the air with us kids...don't recall his license, but his handle was Mississippi Mud. Again, the stuff I remember....

For the life of me, can't remember my call sign, but my handle was Semi-Pro...I was a truck driver before I was an oilfield hand before I was an Oilfield Supervisor, before I was a cop, before I was a PI....still haven't made it past semi-pro status, though...yuk yuk.
Seriously, I do still have a "covert" CB in the pickup. Has a rear window mount antenna with removable whip, and a little module under the dash that a self-contained mike plugs into (mike has all the channel and volume controls built into it).
When I take off, I install the little whip and plug in the control mike...lotsa places across America--still--with no cell coverage, and (believe it or not) truck drivers and their CB's are still the best, easiest, safest ways to get traffic/weather/Smokey Bear updates up ahead you.
"Hey Westbound....how's it looking back over your shoulder?"
