Ours was KBZ4788. Apparently, something I will never forget, having to announce it every time I signed off.

A one point, yes. As if the CB reference wasn't enough, I guess I'm REALLY dating myself with the reference to a license, eh?

Wow, this just keeps getting worse. So much for '70s trivia. There WAS at one time a requirement for one from the FCC. That's not to say everyone followed the law. FAQ

My old CB number was XM12-2813, handle was "Canadian Snowshoe". Had my CB in my 68 Charger, then my 73 Charger. I am now VE7PBJ, but think a handheld will be better

Wow, this just keeps getting worse. So much for '70s trivia. There WAS at one time a requirement for one from the FCC. That's not to say everyone followed the law. FAQBack in the day it used to be a huge event when you got your CB license in the mail. I also remember a rule they had that only English could be spoke on any CB channel except the emergency channel, 9. Turn on one now and see for yourself if that rule is still in effect...even in Kansas !!!!!!!! Kind a makes it tough to get someone to get off the channel because you need to try to talk to someone. Nowadays I just keep mine turned off except for the times I really need it. Not much fun anymore, but whoa buddy they used to be a riot.

Back in the day, 74-75-76, we did not need a license but my handle was Double Trouble.

According to Dave's FAQ link, the FCC required CB licenses until the early 80's...course that's not to say that everyone complied.
I'm sure there were quite a few scofflaws that never took the time and effort to bother with making their "rig" legal.
As a side note, power mikes and amplifiers were illegal too, but they were everywhere. You were an outlaw if you pushed more than 4 watts, and there were a LOT of outlaws out there...still are, in terms of output power.

And 4W is still the limit, from what I read. And yes, we had several power mics.
