Were the steel wheels with dog dish caps available on our 71-74 cars originally? What style were the caps, any pictures? I'm looking at putting them on my 71, but only if they were originally available. There are many styles of caps, want to get the right ones.

Yes. They were available in body color for '71. Some time in '72 the body color option ended and you could have any color wheel you wanted as long as they were black. The caps look like this

I have body color wheels and dog dish caps on my car. If I could figure out how to post pictures I would.

Thanks for the info! I think I'm going to do black, not body color. I've always liked that look. I've heard some people knock the look because they were the lowest option for wheels. Now the caps are $300 for a set!! Crazy.
Now I just have to figure out what sizes will fill up the wheel wells without rubbing.

It didn't take long to find them either. As for tire sizes. Before I went to the steel wheels I had reproduction magnum 500 wheels (15x8). Rear tires were 295-50-R15 and the fronts were 235-50-R15. The rears fit perfectly with zero rubbing issues as did the front. Those are the tires and wheels on the car in my avatar picture. Right now with the steel wheels I have 15x7 factor steel wheels with 245-60-R15's all the way around. I'll see what I can do about posting pics.

Yeah, I'd love to see pics of it. If you have some good pics with the Magnum 500's, I'd like to see those too. For me, I'm going to go with either the black steel wheels or the Magnum 500s. Right now, I have the 14x7 magnum 500 wheels all around with the trim rings and skinny polyglas 70x14 tires. I don't really care for them, plus those tires handle like sh*t.

For what ever reason I can't grasp the picture posting thing here. I just can't get them to post from my PC or my photo hosting sight. However there is a thread on moparnuts.com with before and after pics of the wheels. That thread also includes pictures of my 4 speed conversion on that sight. Click the link below if you are interested in jumping over there to take a look. Sorry for the inconvenience. click here for moparnuts link

PM me the links to the photos from your hosting site, and I'll see if I can get them to work for you.
