The chrome is beginning to flake off the plastic trim strip. I read about this a few years back and there was only one guy who was rechroming the plastic strips, and he was shaky to do business with. Has the situation changed?

Ive got several panels here with the chrome strip bad. How do you even get them off without ruining the panel or the strip?

That's a good question. I gather that it can be done but I don't know how. I would have thought you'd break the old ones off and glue new ones on. It can't be hard to make them in the age of 3D printing.
Maybe I should wise up and paint them . . .

My panels already lost the chromed finish long time ago and they are just on the gray plastic strip. A graphic designer friend of mine told me there is a thin enough vinyl able to be used on them. I guess is something like this could work? www.ebay.com/itm/380234207058

The tape does look good, if you can get it to go on wrinkle free. It'd be tough where the strip zags up.
If you don't need a stock appearance masking the strip off and painting it gloss black would be a decent look. Or a color that matches your interior for those who don't have a black interior.

Needs to be about 7-8mm for my door panel strips. Luckily mine are the R/T panels so they have a straight line. I'll let you all know how it works out. Its very shiny chrome. Hope it works. I'll have to trim it a bit once its layed on/down. 3/8 was a bit too wide by just a touch.
