Looking at getting some bumper work done to tuck the 73 bumpers in closer to the body. Similar to this article. Disco Era BumpersIn the write up and video above, they cut and re-weld the bracket for the rear bumper. I'm wondering if brackets for a 72 would do the trick. My main objective is just to pull the bumpers in and remove the need for the filler pieces because I like the look better ( I miss my 72) Anone have nay experience doing this or pointers on an easier way to do it? TIA

Yeah......that is a way too labor intensive way to tuck in the bumpers. I guess that's OK if your time is worth nothing.
On the front, you want to use a rotary tool with a carbide bit and elongate the bracket mounting holes. (such as a mechanic might use to elongate strut bolt holes for camber adjustment) On the rear, use 71-72 mounting brackets.

I always have read this article and have found an extra trim job is not necesary. If you cut and weld the sides when shortening the width BEFORE weld the bracket cut job on outer side, won't need to deal with trim the outboard of the brackets and will be easier to match the cut on brackets on there.

I used 72 brackets on the rear and elongated the holes on the front brackets where they mount to the frame. Other than adjusting the top brackets and removing the crash bumpers behind the front bumper there is nothing else to do to the front. Getting rid of the silly fillers made all the difference in the world as far as looks go.

Yes! That's right! The width cut and weld job is just to get it more "flushed" with body on sides, not related with filler gap

It definitely make a car look better. Like Sixrings mentioned im not sure its worth all the work. Wonder what it cost to Send out the bumperto be stripped.? I think that type of work may be costly.
