88 Jeep, 80's Ford LTD, 73 Dodge Dart, 75 Chevrolet Nova, 69 Mustang, can't recall what else. Have you ever driven a Mercedes?

Nope, never been in a Mercedes. The closest I've come is my 97 Riviera, which has a chassis as stiff or stiffer than the same year S-class. I have no complaints about the ride but I wish the front end plowed less. The front end weight has been good in snowy conditions though.

Well, dunno about 90s ( Maybe USA automobile industry learnt something about handling on those years LOL ) but I can testify on 70s and 80s models ( and I guess earliers too ) the diff between both Atlantic Ocean sides on cars handling is HUGE lol.
Is not about comfort handling, but safely handling, specialty reaching high speeds. My Mercedes really sticks to the road at any speed. And brakes, well so far superior too, but I know also my Charger is still "weird" on that and I can't say why yet. I have driven a 76 Dart Sport and it brakes better than my Charger. No mods made on it.

If you could find something with a Shelby badge on it, maybe it would change your mind. I've heard good things about the handling of the 5th gen Shelby Chargers. I'd love to see what they're like. And the 3rd gen R/T or Rallye.

I always liked those little L cars, especially in Shelby trim.

Nacho-RT74 - I can see it. I hope somebody will restore it.
I'm dubious about the 73-4 Rallye package. It'd be interesting to test drive it against the earlier years, or at least a 71 R/T, and see what the difference is.
It's obvious that America's Malaise Era cars aren't great performance cars, with the exception of some of the Corvettes, Camaros, and Firebirds. Blame the regulators and the insurers, not the engineers. America has plenty of people who know how to build fast cars.
Your LTD should have floated along well, if it was in good shape. The Fox platform LTD has enjoyed a comeback lately, since the guy who runs the Sloppy Mechanics channel on YouTube figured out it was on the Fox platform. You can make it plenty fast now.
