I want to put an after market B&M style shifter in my '73, but i want to keep the front bench seat cuz bench seats are rad. Does anyone know the best location for the shifter when using bench seats? Seems like you would always need the seat in the most forward position or use a really long shifter? It would be great to see any pics of set-ups with bench seats and aftermarket shifters. Thanks.

After your B&M shifter cable breaks for the 5th time.....you will regret having installed it. * * * *

Thanks DynoDave. That makes sense. Probably a little more work than I'm ready for at the moment, but that will give me ideas if I decide to go that route.

I've heard the same complaint on the third gen F-body forum about Hurst shifters. Cable problems. As old as that technology is, you'd think they'd have it down by now.

I had a B&M shifter in one of my 72's. When driven regularly or semi regularly, I had no issues with the cable. Once the car was retired from daily driving, and was prone to sitting for long periods.......the cable broke 3 times in 5-6 years.
Seems like the replacement cable was kind of expensive too....and always had to be ordered. Around $100 a pop. That was late 90's to early 2000's
