After waiting 2 years and 3 months, the lovely wife and I picked up our new wheels yesterday. So far, I'm thoroughly impressed with this little gem.

We'll all switch to electric eventually. There will be a tipping point where the gas infrastructure isn't profitable anymore. The nearest station to me stopped selling premium years ago. I'm only doing business with one station now, and I burn about a gallon to get there and back.

All the Tesla's I have seen on the road look real nice. But Holy Geezus......they are expensive. LOL WRT the Model S and Model X Teslas, completely. That's the main reason we waited for the Model 3. The base price on the extended range model we have is $49k. Still a chunk of change but not out of line with comparable ICE vehicles with similar options/features. It's got everything our 1999 E320 has and more (nav, heated seats, rear camera). And being able to drive without buying a drop of gasoline while flipping OPEC the bird... priceless. I was disappointed in the fit and finish of the first Model 3's, have a friend who has one my wife test drove. I can say between then (late 2017) and now, the improvement is dramatic. It's not perfect but it's on par with other American made sedans. The Germans and Japanese probably still have an edge on gaps and tolerances. The pearl white paint is beautiful and flawless (and the wife loves it). There are a couple things that we're less than thrilled about. * The rear view mirror is rather small and visibility to the rear is not as good as the E320. Here's where driving a Charger gained me an advantage; I learned early on to use my side mirrors, which help a lot in the Model 3. The wife learned to turn to check her blind spots and consequently, isn't as comfortable with her side mirrors. * There is no AM radio. The AM interference produced by the electric motor and inverted play havoc with AM signals. Rather than have people unhappy with AM reception, Tesla, like BMW, has dropped the AM radio. Someday it may be back if the interference problem can be solved. * Lighting in the rear passenger area is limited to two small lights in the doors which, in my opinion, are inadequate at night. We can live with this and there will probably be some other things that turn up but for now, I'm happy to be able to "Fill'er up" from the solar panels on our roof instead of $3.80/gal for the E320.

Seems like what I have seen on the street is the Model S, a nice looking vehicle....which I think "start" around 75k Have been seeing quite a few of those around lately.
I am just amazed at the prices people are willing to pay for new vehicles.
I drove thru a pretty nice subdivision this past weekend in Fayetteville, GA
Just looking around.....I realized a lot of the houses had $200,000+ of vehicles sitting in their driveways.

A sore spot with some folks I've run into is the "subsidies". We'll get a $7500 federal tax credit, a $2500 CA state rebate and a $500 rebate from our power company here (PG&E). We might qualify for a break on our electric bill because PG&E has an EV program but I don't know how that will work with the Net Energy Metering plan we're on because we have solar panels. When we reserved the car over two years ago, we didn't know about the state and PG&E rebates and I was expecting the federal tax credits to have rolled off by the time we got the car so these weren't a deal maker; we'd have bought the car without the incentives.

Yeh you're right. I'm still on the fence about electric vehicles. I know the day is coming when gas will give way to electric. I have driven in a Tesla 3 and it was a very nice ride. But like Tom said, the prices are expensive. I know you can go about 260 miles on a full charge and then do a Hot Charge for about 40 minutes, but until the infrastructure is in place, right now it kinda kills the family vacation going to Yellowstone Park

After closer examination in the daylight, the rear passenger compartment lights were located. Seems they were not configured to come on by default... * *
