my engine compartment that is. Has anyone just gutted there engine compartment except for the engine and cleaned and painted with the engine in? I'm thinking of finding a green close to my color and brush it on for a thick coating or would you use a high gloss spray paint like they use on engines. At the car show Saturday everyone had there hoods open. I left mine shut because it just is not that pretty. I thought as long as I'm going to change the engine wiring harness might as well clean it up. Any suggestions? Bob Ps..I was the only mopar at the show and the trophies went to: 1st 65 Mustang, clean. 2nd 67 Ford Fairlane GT 4 speed, very nice, 390 cu 3rd 40 chevy coupe in primer. Peoples choice. Get this, only 8 cars in the whole show. Rain kept most of them home. I thought sure I would get something, not that it matters, but would have been nice.

Bob, I always keep my hood shut at shows. Why have a car with nice lines and leave the hood open? I can tell you're a novice at car shows, so these are the rules; 1. The car with the most expensive/shiniest paint wins. 2. The car with the most expensive/biggest wheels comes second. 3. Anything with 'Chevrolet' on comes third.
Cynic - me?

Your right gadabra. I've only been in 2 or 3 shows. Mostly for the fun of it. Most the time people ask me to open the hood to look at a real engine. Just gets a little embarassing sometimes. Bob
Ps..the 78 red corvette that looked sweet as heck got nothing also.

Could be worse. You could take it to a Mopar show and have some dork point out that your belts are not correctly date coded and your radiator hose clamps are not clocked properly. ;D
I got a feeling if you try the brush method you alluded to, it might turn out looking worse.

Bob, I always keep my hood shut at shows. Why have a car with nice lines and leave the hood open? with you 110% Gadabra. It also sucks when taking pictures to have the hood open as it hides a lot of the car depending on the angle.

Pulling the motor again I was hoping someone did with out doing that. The last time I did it by myself and almost pulled my hair out. What's left of it. Maybe a good cleaning is what it needs. I will take before and after pics and let you be the judge. Bob

Well I started the process. Sunday I removed everything from the engine bay except the engine. Everything was removed. I started by blowing all the nooks and crannies. Sanded everything down and rinsed it very thoroughly. I blew out all the water and let dry. Taped up everything, primed and painted with a forest green metallic pearl. Man it looks great. The blower motor, wiper motor and a couple other things are gloss black using a high quality engine paint. I am using wire loom where I can. I can't believe the difference. I'm not done yet but should be this week. I have taken allot pics and will post them when finished. I also got a silver paint pen and did one of my tail light lens. Looks so much better.

…engine compartment... You mean where the engine is? Why not same color as your car? I hate my car since it's dark green metallic on the outside and has a black compartment, is white under the hood too, as well as the trunk lid is white underneath of it. I really hate that so I never open my hood or trunk when people are around.
