There is a fuel vapor return line that runs from the vapor separator canister below the fuel pump back to the fuel tank on BB cars. I think there's also a return line from the valve cover breather.

Vent line that connects from the breather on the valve cover to the canister in the driver's side rear wheel well.
Edit: my Nov. build 383 does not have a separator by the fuel pump. It has the 3 nipple breather.

This is a 318 car, would it still have a canister on it? I purchased the car in pieces, just working on putting it all back as it should be.

A 318 wouldn't have the engine compartment vapor separator. It's probably the vent line from the three-nipple breather. There's a length of rubber hose that runs from the breather over to the fender where it connects to the return hard line. You can see it in these pics.

Charger440sixpac, thank you for the images! I can see where that line comes into now, are those absolutely necessary do you know? Or is it just an additional safeguard for venting

I believe it is part of the emission control system, to prevent fuel vapor from escaping to the atmosphere. Shouldn't have any affect on how the engine runs if unused.

Does anyone know if there is a company out there that makes that 3 nipple breather for the 318?

A little late on this question but I just saw a used 3 nipple breather at a swap meet. They are out there.

Interesting info, just looked at my own pics and realized mine had been "capped" ever since I got the car. It just kind of sits there in my engine bay.
