Those are the only 5X8's I've seen on the entire internet. Seems like HiFonics is a dubious brand though. I can't even find those Rockford Fosgate adapters except as part of a package with speakers - LinkI'll join a car audio forum and get advice. I've got a lot to learn about car audio.

It seems you could be right about 5x8 being really 5x7?
But I recall have seen 5x8s everywhere some years ago? Or Am I becoming nut?
EDITING... but 4x10 aren't being listed either and is a fact that's the front speaker size

Speaker size reference. The extra holes around my driver side speaker appear to be factory. They've got the blue paint inside of them. I don't know how you would mount a 6X9 there with the indentation for the 5X8, but it looks like that's what the extra holes are for. Can you put spacers on the mounting bolts to clear the 5X8 indentation? If that's possible I could get two 6X9's and mount them from below. I'd have to drill vent holes in my masonite like the stock package tray has. I wonder if it would be o.k. to cover the holes with headliner material, which would look best, or if the headliner material would have to be performated too. Surely not. The package tray in my other car doesn't have perforations in it.

I don't know which is best, but I'm sure they're all better than having the stock speaker rebuilt. Some of them have end mounts that look like they would work. If other parts of the frame were cut away. An thoughts? If anybody else is in the market for a new center speaker, I might consider buying one of the pair sets and selling the one I don't need.

I got rebuilt my front center. The stock radio is not a HiFi device anyway. 3 watts unit begins to distort way before the speaker going to excursion. Both situation are danger for the speaker but the distortion coming out from Radio is anoying, while the speaker going to excursion is not.

Here's a source for classic car speakers - LinkThey also upgrade old radios - LinkI doubt I'd be happy with the performance of the factory radio. I'm intrigued by the idea of foregoing the head unit and controlling the speakers/amp through a laptop via bluetooth.

I got the repro modern version from a member here who didn't like it on a nice price. Planning to use it when reassembling my car www.vintageautoradio.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&category_id=4&flypage=flypage_new.tpl&product_id=101&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=67is the first series, ( not the one on the link ) with aux in being RCA not minijack as far I recall, and non bluetooth, but I don't care bluetooth. I preffer hardwired conection Will see how it sounds, but per manual instructions is not really easy to operate. I also upgraded the original one with more powerfull transistors to avoid the distortion, but this was made while my car is still being worked. I was interested on them more to get a better radio signal than more output. Had to use a radio signal amplifier ( 15db ) to help on reception on the stock one, but trying to clean up everything from adds on.

That's a better price than what Year One has it for. Still a lot of money, but it's a unique item. I see it's got a connection for an mp3 player. I don't know if that makes bluetooth redundant or not.
I'm thinking two 6X9's mounted underneath the package shelf, using spacers to clear the shelfs in the tray. That will make them easier to change if necessary.
Correct me if I am wrong, the original head unit needs 8 ohm speakers, but the one you linked to needs 4 ohm speakers?

The minijack connection for any external device is optional to the bluetooth. Well actually I woud say it backwards LOL. I allways preffer a wired system althought bluetooth is more comfortable for sure. The bluetooth function is definitelly a great option for the handfree setup for the cell phone.
I never have paid attention to the 4 or 8 ohms deal. Both impedances are easy to handle for any regular stereo system, just hat 4 ohms will be more sensitive to the voltage coming from amplifier section than a 8 ohms. It becomes on a more important deal if you were to install parallel &/or serial speakers systems ( like audio competition cars ) since would need to be calculated to not get it close to 0 ohms ( a short to the amplifier ).
I think stock speakers are 4 ohms anyway, and modern car speakers are in that range too being the voltage rate on cars is 12 volts, diff from home stereos where speakers are rated at 8 ohms but equippments work with 110-120 volts.
About the price, I actually got it ( not the bluetooth version thought ) in more less half of the price because owner wasn't satisfied with it. If wasn't that I couldn't afford it. There is a dozen of parts I need or wish more than that Radio ( RCD shocks, Tuff Stuff alt, Bumper filler corners, Rubber K frame mounts and some stuff more I can't recall at this moment )
