Is it possible to unbolt and drop the 727 transmission from below on these 3rd gens? Or must you pull the motor and all from above? I found someone to rebuilt it but the shop is pretty far away from me.

Yes, it's doable.
You just need to safely get the car up high enough, have a strong friend or two around to help, and a trans jack (or adapter for your floor jack) if you can get one.

I made it by myself without help and using a regular jack with a plywood LOL

Yep get it up high. I use 6 ton stands as well as 3 ton. Once out it won't roll out on a jack (too tall) so drop it on a piece of cardboard to slide it out and if you don't remove the dipstick tube you'll have to direct it out through the wheel well.

Agree with 71se3834v.........thats exactly what I did when the trans need to be rebuilt. Good luck and still make sure you have at least 1 other person to help.

Hey just buy the harbor freight trans Jack the 2000 lb model......it makes it Really easy, I have Changed trans on my 77 doba big block.....74 charger.....and my 87 ramcharger 4x4 easily from the bottom by myself and I'm 57 hrs old with arthritis and I have a maxx jaxx lift to help out, best money I ever spent.
