I think going with black is a better color. IMO.....

Is the a light color, like white of light tan that could be spray dyed to an appropriate shade of blue?

I wanted to keep the car as original as possible since it was quite whole when I bought it with only a few pieces missing and not molested (no offense to those that modify) and I figure the gunmetal interior is probably pretty rare. I know 6% of Chargers and Coronets were painted gunmetal and figure even less chose that interior color. Having said that I realized early on that it might not be found and seeing that the carpet, dash, console and all lower panels are black I had no problem going with black. The more I think about it with the upper trim gunmetal I think it'll look pretty good up against the black headliner.

OUCH! Heard back from the eBay seller. $325 + shipping for a headliner in gunmetal cut from NOS material. Black it is!

Oh man, that's a tough call. Pricey, but a once in a lifetime chance too. Once it's gone, it's gone. They sure won't ever reproduce it.

Well I never set out to restore this car to OEM. Since I don't have an unlimited budget I went into it buying parts like the average guy would back in the day. Going to the local auto parts store where possible and buying what was on the shelf. Back in the day if I needed a headliner I would probably go to the local upholstery shop and just get black. I'm trying to make this car a real nice driver and the driveline is there. After getting the air up and running last year replacing the carpet and sprucing up the trim will make the interior real nice. I figure an extra $240 will go a long way for other things.

I can certainly appreciate that.
I was all excited over the weekend to score a modified TBI unit for the Trans Am...they go for hundreds on ebay...and I paid $20.

For the unique gunmetal setup and being in close to perfect conditions, I think will try to make it gunmental. But that's just me. Of course money doesn't help, but...

Now you guys got me thinking. My car is far from near perfect but it is 99% complete I'd say. Needs paint, vinyl top terrible and has a couple of dings and a few spots of rust starting to bubble up. I'll never try to tackle the body myself and don't have the spare money to pay someone. This interior job is gonna be my last major project on the car as my physical condition is taking it's toll on me. Every time I spend a day working on it it takes days to recover. Sad as I love working on this stuff. I haven't pulled the headliner out yet. Don't know what can of worms I'll uncover cause there is some crunching when I push on it near the windshield. Figure it's shells and stuff from the mouse as I already found a nest under the rear seat, shells and seeds under the console. There is a rust bubble in the roof the vicinity so I'm hoping it's not major rust.

I made to reuse my original headliner ( when my car was blue inside ) with some fixes around. Whats the problem with yours ? mine began to hang down because the bows tubes attached to headliner ( dunno how you call them ) where broken. Asked my mom to make new cloth tubes and stitch them and reinstalled... everything came out perfect. Of course I cleaned it on the garage floor with a brush.
I have allways though the interior is allways a headache. Mech and body can be fixed, rebuild or replaced with aftermarket parts, but interior pieces usually just can be replaced with low quality parts, and interior replacement parts are a headache. That's why from now I allways will search cars with perfect interior parts... and if some is damaged, just being easy to replace or fix.
