About a month ago I hit a deer, totalling my 2014 Ford Focus hatchback with manual transmission.
I've been commuting the same route for 14 years and haven't hit a deer.
I scored a 2012 Ford Fusion with only 32k on it. The same car my wife has been driving for about 120k so far.
I came extremely close to hitting a second deer about 1-1/2 weeks after getting the new car on the road. It was like deja vu, only I missed the deer by a peach fuzz this time.
This past Monday I nailed another deer! This time the damage on the new car was not nearly as bad.
I'm in the process of finding out if the insurance will go up for a second deer hit in such a short time. These type of accidents fall under no fault in PA.
The accidents happened in New Jersey. Im really hoping to fix the New car for the cost of the $500 deductible.
It needs a new bumper skin, upper and lower grill and some hood bodywork.
Any Charger projects will be on hold for a good while.😣
Yes $5,700 in damage. Doesn't look like it but it was totaled. The car value was $5,200. Drove it home 30 plus miles.
Advice... pull over and Call 911 to generate a report for your insurance. It proves you hit a deer. Though, the hair on the grill and poop on the blue Oval tell the story.
Also, don't let any tow truck take your car. Use YOUR AAA, these highway tow guys will try to tow you to their collision shop.
They are also in Cahoots with the highway police ( in my opinion) though I have an extremely good source that this is the case.
The officer said just have him take you off the next exit, (I78) interstate. Will he charge me? "No Ill talk to him".
After the car is on the flatbed and we are on the road, the driver tells me $150 for the hook and $5 for each mile. Get off the next exit!!
Luckily my insurance covered it. I drove the car home. Stupid me!
The last deer hit, there were no tow trucks involved.
The highway patrolman was trying to convince me NOT to file a report. " the damage is not bad ". "Your Insurance will go up". Me......" I think I may need it"
"just incase ". Thank you sir.
