Anyone buy one of the aftermarket slap sticks? Mine has a crack at the screw and Its also very loose in hand because its loose along the seam. I was thinking of using apoxy to reinforce the screw area as well as apoxy it along the seam. It looks like it comes apart. Anyone take theirs apart? I know apoxy has its limitations but I have fixed so many things around the house with it. Why not try? If not an aftermarket one will do.

I don't own one but there is a difference in the look of the "chrome" stripe on the repro's if that matters to ya. Which is why when you see an OEM one at a swap it goes for big bucks. A strip of black electrical tape around the bottom was the cure for the crack on mine. 😀

Do you mean the T handle shifter?
I got one repro and I'm PLENTY satisfied with it EXCEPT for one thing: the chromed button and ring worn out with friction for a driver like my car used to be. I ended using an old original handle button and ring setup and intalled on the repro piece and done. Repros doesn't have the preload spring on the button assembly either so I installed it too with the original button set.
I can't recall any difference on the top chrome strip thought.

Just pulling out the ring bezel. Not big science.
Sure the chrome worn out after couple of years, but as mentioned, my car used to be a daily driver. Is not a problem with a occasional use.
Editing: I remember the original T handle assembly gets the ring more "snapped on" into the handle. The repro assembly doesn't get that final "click" once ring bezel is in place, but still is a perfect fit

I believe I purchased mine from Herb's back in 2010. Seems fine.

The original part is pretty plasticky to begin with and I find the new part to feel EVEN LESS quality. The button just rattles around in the handle. So I did what Nacho suggested and swapped the guts of the old handle into the new. Much better. The aftermarket part doesn't have a spring like Nacho said. It works without the spring but I imagine that's why the new shifter button just danced around in the new handle. A friend said the spring may function as a lock out so you don't go into reverse or park position as you "slap" the handle up. Anyone know the purpose of the spring? Why not include it with the new part? Picture of my old handle with aftermarket guts but original ring.

spring... preload on button... Without it the button gets a free play before get in touch with the shifter release system rod. good question on WHY NOT the spring on the new one. the chrome fade did happen to me into both chromed parts I replaced both, button and ring. sometime ago FMMOPAR was selling on ebay a NOS button. Dunno if yet

The mechanism that keeps the shifter from upshifting more than once and keeps you from going into neutral or reverse is built into the shifter not the handle.
