Another amazing spacecraft that didn't get to fly. It really makes me question things when I see what was considered possible in the past, and yet it wasn't done. The Rockwell Star-Raker, the nearly finished X-33 Venture Star, even Project Orion. I tentatively speculate that Project Orion could have been built though - if your nuclear bomb powered rocket has to be built like a submarine to take the stress, why not build a submarine that can be powered by nuclear bombs instead? Then you could launch from the arctic, and who would be the wiser? It's a lot of capability to leave on the table.
