I have always been led to believe that the Tuff wheel was not an option with a manual steering car is this true ? I have searched to no avail. Also when or how did the seat belt light become an option on 71-74's. Been told of a 73 400 auto rallye with a seat belt light beteween the ashtray and the glovebox.

In the 1971 Dealer Data book code S84, "Tuff" wheel (it actually says that) there is no indication that it is only available with other options. Just shows extra charge across all models. That's all the info I got, can't add anymore to the subject.

Seatbelt light began to be installed on 71s, being time delay controled ( by the same flasher controlling the ig courtesy light ). Since 72 was operated by a relay or control unit ( 74s ) able to receive seats and belt signals through sensors. AND with tranny, to warn you just as soon you gear in the car. The seatbelt light on dash ( not the one above the cluster ) was equipped when tuff wheel was optioned mainly for clearence problems due the steering wheel. The tuff wheel being smaller on diameter, theorically blocked the warning light vision above the cluster, hence the reason why was an extra one installed on dash. Now... I have found blank plastic inserts without the seatbelt warning light... or with map light and still without the seatbelt warning light. ALSO I have found dash pads without even the provision for this insert... Earlier productions when the seatbelt warning system wasn't a requirement ? dunno, maybe. Some 71s ( maybe laters too ? ) could get tuff wheels and no seatbelt light on insert above the cluster but just the dash one ? that's posible about power steering required with tuff wheel... is true: 73 the same:

Interesting Nacho. As for me, a Coupe owner, I get the Ralph Kramden city bus steering wheel. Isn't that special.

Autos didn't have the reverse light obviously. Tuff wheel wasn't an included option on Rallye package... so a car like Dave's one which is a 72 Rallye and coupe, it got none dash warning light being auto and with the plain Jane 3 spokes steering wheel.

Now that that page is posted I remember see it. Makes sense since the wheel is smaller. Wonder why it's not indicated in the Data book.

Is funny because with 71 exception, 72/74 got a buzzer for the seatbelt warning signal and not just the light. It seems one light AND the buzzer wasn't enough and needed an extra light? LOL. I remember have read somewhere the extra seatbelt light fact due the tuff wheel option, but can't recall where at this time. I THINK it was on the 74 schematic wiring diagram where this light diagram is shown. Not on the rest thought
