.......to make an oxidized aluminum intake look good/better? I found 2 at junkyards and cleaned them up in the parts wash at work. I thought about maybe glass beading them. I suppose I could use some wheel cleaner, the stuff with acid in it, that leaves black spots when left on too long. Any suggestions?

Maybe an engine shop would have an idea. Maybe cooking it. Cow urine I heard works pretty good. You just have to hold it steady. Let me know how it works. Don't forget eye protection. Safety first.

To clean oxidized aluminum: 1) Put it in your oven and then run the oven thru it's self ....cleaning cycle...And no, I'm not b.s.'ing you, Tom (see ....explanation below). 2)Quicker, but not as effective: Spray it with oven cleaner ....then put it in the oven and follow the time and temp ....directions on the oven cleaner can.
I know this because I own almost the full set of aluminum cookware made my Guardian Ware in the 40's and 50's, and it is an extensive set. My recently departed Mom had a few pieces she bought from the door to door salesmen in the 50's, and she got me started on collecting them.
All pieces don't come in pristine condition and I learned how to clean them early on.
This is only how to clean them, Tom....there are several methods (chemical, abrasive, and otherwise to make 'em shine....and none of them require a sander, grinder, polishing wheel, or any motor powered instrument.
I'll try to find my paperwork on what to use before you get 'em clean and are ready to shine 'em.
Jer. P.S.: I have almost 200 pieces of the stuff, Tom, from little soup bowls all the way up to giant roaster pans with lids, pressure cooker, and huge "soup" kettles, and I've cleaned and shined everyone of them....I KNOW OF WHAT I SPEAKETH!! ;D
