On both my Charger and my '77 F150, the bolts on the valve covers always work loose. I was thinking about putting split locking washers under the bolts. Has anyone else ever done this? Or is this something I should avoid and go a different route? I would have thought they would do this from the factory, but it makes me think there is a reason why they did not use split washers.
Thanks.

valve cover metal is too weak to add more pressure.

Agreed. By the time you collapse the split lock washers enough to prove any anti-loosening benefit to the bolt, you will have deformed the valve cover rail. A star washer "might" work a little better, especially if installed on top of a spreader bar. Personally, I'd go this route. Valve Cover Bolt Kit (16 Bolts)

So today i installed a new valve cover gasket. had a leak, and discovered the gasket was split... longways... so if i tightened it, it just made the leak worse. I want to make sure the bolts are all even, so i bought a small torque wrench. Does anyone know what the correct amount of torque is for our valve covers???
