So, its been with my mechanic for a couple of days. Apparently the power brake booster is gone, everything else checks out.
They don't think they can rebuild it, and can't find any with their suppliers. I thought I found a couple on-line but they were false leads.
So apparently my options are to 1) tow the car home while my booster is sent to Texas in hopes of a fix (maybe a week if it works) or convert to manual brakes. I've been told that manual give better control, but of course will be stiff. I'm leaning toward the latter, because it sounds simpler.
What would you do?

I've decide to take your advice, Superman. Since winter is coming on up here, and international shipping is slow these days, I'm putting her away for the season while we dig up the parts. (Anyone have a 71-74 B-body booster for drum brakes?) Another option is the Bendix reproduction, but I think that goes with disk brakes up front. Yeah, turns out I have all drum brakes. Thanks, JDC

Yeah, turns out I have all drum brakes. Well, that could explain some of the "feel", effort, and braking power differences you are feeling.

Easy, convert to manual. Mine are manual and I never knew the difference (back when it was on the road). I have no plans to "upgrade" to power.

My '70 Duster is manual 4 wheel drums. While they do not provide the best stopping power, they are adequate.
For me, when kept adjusted (which I tinkered with constantly), the pedal was high and hard, which I liked.
The bad, they required regular adjustment to keep them the same side-to-side on the front. If they were not equally adjusted, it would pull under braking, which is annoying.

Just to follow up, had the following things done: 1) upgraded front brakes to power disc: stops much better 2) adjusted choke and learned to modulate the gas properly on starting: starts much better 3) added functional twin hood scoops over the dual intake snorkels: looks much better (IMHO). You can see those in my updated avatar and here: wichargerguy.proboards.com/thread/20880/favorite-aftermarket-hood-scoop?page=6Overall, runs much better and I'm a very happy man. Thanks for your input and big thanks to Dave at Pentastic Motors Ontario, first for finding the car, and then doing these mods. Regards, JD
