I need a radiator for a 1973 Dodge Charger with factory a/c. What part number should I be looking for at NAPA or stores of the like. The mill is a 400. Do any of yous guys have a link for me? Thanks.

I was going to point you to Rock Auto, but they're out of stock. The people at NAPA et al shouldn't have any trouble looking up your part, if you tell them the year of your Charger and engine size.

There are several different factors. But first if you have a build sheet, it willl give you the last 2 numbers of the part number which will narrow it down. If not the fender tag will tell you if it is 26 or 28 inch which will also help. Sounds like my 73 and there were 2 rads that could have been but my build sheet told me for certain. Most likely 28 inch so lets start there. 3673047 1973 B 28" 400 Auto A/C 3673047 1973 B 28" 440 Auto Heater 3673052 1973 B 28" 400 440 Both A/C With I/C 3673053 1973 B 28" 400 440 Both Heater With N51 3673054 1973 B 26" 400 440 Both Heater 3673047 1973 B 28" 400 Auto A/C Those are your choices for 73/400/28inch (mine) 3rd line - Rad - 47 as you can see

Thank you. I am a Ford guy (70 Torino GT, 69 Mercury Marauder, and 77 Mark V) doing a frame off on my better half's first car. 1973 Charger SE Brougham. Triple white. 400-Auto. No build sheet (which I figured would be under the seat?) It has factory air. What is I/C? What is N51? I will look at the buck tag when I get home. I do not have the old radiator as a family member 25 years ago took the car to "fix up." I have seldom turned a wrench on Mopar. I have always poked fun at my buddies who pray to their firewalls for guidance. Now this is not so funny. Sort of like the Slap Stick in it. Gee, lets take a part intended to be banged on and make it out of plastic. On the other hand Ford has their share of "better ideas." Thanks MBW
I welcome intellect, knowledge, experience, and guidance at all times. Man I am going in over my head. I am doing a stocker rebuild and am trying to avoid the after market, not that I want NOS air in the tires.
Thank you in advance for help I have not gotten yet. MBW

N51 is max cooling usually with a tow package. I/C best I have ever found out is some sort of low coolant warning, maybe a light...not sure. My best guess is you have same as mine 3673047. as far as build sheets, behind he rear seat is where I found mine (the one I posted). A few pieces under the driver seat but it was fairly disintegrated.

Thank you. How do I translate that code into a p/n at the counter as opposed to an 18 year old kid going to a catalog and giving me 73 Chrysler 400 a/c and calling it quits. Thanks. I will be going through NAPA.
If I wanted to spend the long dollar and went aluminum as it would make the car faster because my wallet would be lighter, do you advise the idea and if so could you please send me a link to the one that would be a direct drop in. I am really shying away from the after market. I am not looking for Pebble Beach or NHRA. I am staying close to stock/oem as I can, but an upgrade as to cooling is rationalized as it is an upgrade as it was not available as a day 2 back then and I will probably wire up an auxiliary fan to stay on the safe side.
Again...thank you in advance. MBW
I appreciate your patience and you attention.

My 2 cents ... if you are worried about it being correct, I wouldn't go to NAPA. again, my 2 cents for what it is worth

If you are the type of person that might appreciate more than one choice, and more than one price point, you might want to check out Summit Racing dot com. They have several different brands to choose from as well as several price points and types, aluminum, brass/copper, restoration, etc. If nothing else it is a great place to see ALL the options instead of the 1 or 2 brands that most auto parts stores carry. When I did mine, I found a correct Mopar part numbered used radiator online (feebay), bought it and then took it to my local radiator shop and had it re-cored, looks like new and is correct for the car.
My son and I ordered one from summit to replace the radiator in his 87 Chevy pick up, we found one that is the restoration style, so it looks just like the original and fits without extra adventures. They have entry level aluminum low quality Chinese stuff, in the $200.00 range, and higher quality American made for upwards of $1000.00 They also have lots of stuff in between.
FYI, I really like Napa, but on some types of parts they just don't have enough choices. Take 2 minutes and do a search at Napa for your radiator and then do the same thing at Summit Racing. If your hung up on walking into a local store to pick it up, keep in mind, the minimum wage cashier that ordered it, had a big truck bring it to them so he could hand it to you is just a cashier with zero training on anything beyond using a cash register and the search function on the store computer. If you trust yourself more than the cashier you could have the big truck bring it directly to you and skip the extra cashier. All kidding aside Summit does have very knowledgeable people to help you get the right part.
I think I/C might be for the Ignition control temperature vacuum switch, threaded hole on the radiator. My radiator has that option.

Ahhh, yes, that's it. Mine has I/C as well. And , Summit is good people and very helpful. Good prices for the most part too.
