Junkyard Gem: 1976 Chrysler Cordoba"The base engine in the "49-state" 1976 Cordoba was a 400-cubic-inch (6.5-liter) big-block V8 engine rated at 175 horsepower and 300 pound-feet, but this is a California-market car and it got the 360-cubic-inch (5.8-liter) LA-series V8 engine (170 horsepower, 280 pound-feet) mandated for Cordobas sold in the Golden State that year. Some sources say that the 318 was the base '78 Cordoba engine everywhere, but Chrysler's own brochures say it was the 400 or the 360 and that's what we're going with here." Really?

Yes, this article seems pretty accurate. AutoBlog (a Huffington Post product) usually has decently researched stories, though I often disagree with their conclusions and agenda.
318 was std. in '79. Also in '75 IIRC. I think the 400 was std. all other years. Been a few years since I went through that data. My '77 has the std. 400. If you ordered a 318, it was either a no-cost option, or a credit, I can't recall which. And as far as I know, that's always 400 4bbl., never a 400 2bbl. Again, it's been some years.
Love seeing this car though. My girlfriend had a '76, this color, that interior, with 360. If this wasn't a California emissions car, it might have been her old car. I did some work on that car for her. We also enjoyed the reclining 60/40 split bench seat. Great memories!
