I don't get my '72 on the road as much as I would like. I have met a lot of old timers who usually have a nice comment. I never met up with an owner/driver of a four door Charger, especially one of the "Hemi" powered versions. Has anyone had that happen? What should I expect? A race? A snub? (that would suck). It seems to me that although we're Charger owners, there are some very different schools of thought. Four door guys like the performance image of a Charger and want it in a practical, modern package. Classic Charger owners seem to be willing to sacrifice much more to drive a legend (money, time, maintenance). Sure the car might break down, a tank of gas is expensive and burns up fast. But for a few hours you are the undisputed king of the road! The reaction of people on the streets is unbelievable. All kinds of people wave and honk, the 3rd gen Charger is such an emotional design that strikes a chord inside so many people. Mustang and chevy guys, even new Corvette owners break their necks just gawking at it! Although the four door Chargers are probably the best selling Chargers ever as far as sales figures go, that would have not been possible if it wasn't for the originals that helped create the legend in the first place.

G'day Glen, when i was in the States i drove a new Charger for a few weeks and I loved it. When i bumped into other new Charger owners, a lot of them didn't get it because it reminded them of an old Charger - they liked this particular new car. People are all different. i think we all expect everyone who drives a new car based on an old car to be instantly part of the "brotherhood". I'm not saying that in regards to your post either, but rather a couple of articles I've read in Mopar Muscle where old Charger owners really get stuck into new car owners. The new car owners really have no reason to want to be part of a "Charger thing" either when all people seem to do is bag the new model because it's got 4 doors. I think people need to "get over it". There's a new Charger, it has 4 doors. Not what we'd probably like, but there you go. The Charger R/T and Bee owners i met were very passionate about there cars. If we want to keep the Mopar family going you need to embrace all the models - not just ones that we deem acceptable. Sorry to get on the soapbox there. If you you pull up to someone in a new Charger and they say "cool Charger", that's great. If they don't know what you're driving - oh well. And if they want to race you, just remember it's a NEW Hemi. Peter

I own a 72 Charger and love it, love the way it looks, drives, and the attention it gets when out on the road. Though I have never driven or even ridden in the new Charger when I first heard that they were bringing back the model name and actually backing it up with some horsepower I was quite excited. Now I know that it may not look the way we may like and it may have too many doors to fit into the muscle car category for some of us but in my opinion the mere name Dodge Charger has always exuded a persona of power, performance, and just plain and simply a bad car!!(with the exception of the Omni charger) I guess my point is that I find it hard to believe that anyone going out and buying or driving the new "Dodge Charger" isn't doing it at least in small part due to the bold and unmistakable image that its older namesakes have set forth in the past. Two door or four door hopefully there will always be the sense of pride that comes with being seen in a Charger! .....And that is my worth.

I guess the 4 door thing is a little hard for some people to get pat. The thing is I saw quite a few new R/T's and daytonas and man.....they looked mean. I reckon they've tried to cater for the person who needs 4 doors, but have still maintained a tough image. peter

Good reading here! I suppose the 4 doors were inevitable - maybe the insult so many of us wore on our sleeve was that they had such a winner in the concept Charger back in what year 99?! Then this production car is not reminiscent at all of past Chargers. We were no less vocal about the Omni version either. Perhaps Ma MoPar heard us?! The Challenger/Cuda is closer to the mark Maybe the next Charger will be too But, yes the cool part of this thread is that, at the end of the day, you're right the new Charger does embody the power & mystique that is Charger

Can't say anything about the "new Charger" owners, but the only Charger that I'd have an intrest in, new wise that is, is the SRT8, the others....

Well i know the people over at the (4) door charger boards hate my guts. I believe there last comment about my 1973 charger --- was its a ugly pile of poop. From the people i have met and raced (oh by the way they all lost to my old ugly 2 door) They seem to have a chip on their shoulder. They like to bench race a lot, and instead of lining up the car and running them , they want to mod out there car for a sure win over a stock mustang/ whatever. Then they try to set a race where they will shine, lets race from a 60 roll and run to 100. Of course when they lose they bitch about oh our car is so heavy and if i was as light as your car blah blah blah.

I never met any, so I don't know. Look at the old vs. new debate this way, the old Charger owners are like wise old men. The new Charger owners like wayward children, need to be shown the way. If either act like a##holes, they don't know what owning a Charger or any muscle car is really about. #Twocents#
