Ok....Column was out of car when I got it.....as was everything else!.... What mounts the steering column to the Firewall area/floor area? .......any body got some pics of the Fasteners?.....looks like huge washers?.....also what can you rebuild on a column, Is there a bearing on the end of the column where the shaft goes thru?...It sure flops around there a fair bit...just does not seem right... Any and all pictures and tech advise would be appreciated!!.. Thanks Guys as always!!

square nuts enclosured to the body, just like the ones used on rear bumper brackets, radiator core support to the ground attachment, the fender provision to the headlights pedestals, rear deck lid striker etc...
and yes there are as far I remember teflon bushings on lower section of column, and ball bearings to the top collar where turning switch mounts.
Depending on year, the lower bushing does have also a spring to keep bushing on place.
ball bearing does have C clip and Snap rings to keep fixed at shaft

Just 3 bolts - at least on the 72. Pics at 7. The next 7.

Steve, The steering wheel on my blue car flops around like a fish on a hook, also. I have found the lower column bearings for sale, but I haven't had any luck on the upper column bearing setup. (Which--if I ever do find one--I'm hoping won't be complicated by the fact that mine's a tilt wheel setup!)

Bearing,.... bushing,.... I can't remember which for the lower..and my scanner plays Koo-Koo when I try to scan out of my Service Manual..
I have the manual on CD, I'll try to remember to locate the schematic diagram of it and email it to you..
Remember, though...I don't know if it matters, but my manual/CD is for a 72.
I'll also try to locate an Ebay listing for the lower column repair kit/bearing/bushing.....whatever the heck it is,.... I used to see them listed rather frequently.

Some columns had a lower bearing, many did not. I really do not know the rhyme or reason as to which ones did.
Steve, if nobody has posted up any good pics by then ...I`ll get some done for you when I get home next week.

The bolts are nothing special either really, something similar to these..... These are not the bolts that came out of the steering column mount but they are the same type I believe. (the ones with the washers, not the other ones)
