Matt, I don`t have a definitive answer for you. Getting it off as you intend (with leaf springs) will be the easiest way. (4) 9/16? nuts on the front side of the front hangars should come off relatively easy, hand tools should be fine. Ever try wrenching off the 8 U bolt nuts by hand? ........... Its a back killer. I will be interested to find out how everything works out for you. I will be bringing my newly purchased 72 SE home this weekend. I want to put one of my 8 3/4 rears in it and both of the ones I have came out off 73/74`s.

The few times I have went to the wrecking yards to pull parts. I have found it convienent to take my small honda generator and my electric impact. Along with a good long breaker bar and pipe. Once you have it broken loose the electric impact makes short work of the rest.

Matt, how did the rear end swap go? I was wondering if I will have any issues putting the 73 sure-grip rear into my 72.

Thanks Matt I went to my storage unit tonight to bring home a transmission. While there, I looked over the housings and see exactly what you mean about the larger hole in the center of the perch. For the time being, I will be keeping the 8 1/4 in the car I am working on. Maybe by next year I can save up the $$ to finish turning the car into a BB, 4 speed, with 8 1/4. Right now, I just want it to run and drive.
