my 318 was starting and running just fine a couple weeks ago. now the 318 will not start at all. i checked the ballast resistor, distributor, and firing of the coil and 8 wires and they all seem fine. the carburetor seems to not be "spurting" any gas when i pull back the accellerator. what could be the problem? maybe the fuel pump? clogged filter? damaged float?

The 360 in my 78 powerwagon done that and it ended up being the fulepump that had been replaced just 6 months prior, and it was a expensive holley pump too, anyway check that. Easy way to do that is to disconnect the inlet line and put your finger over the opening to "feel" the suction. If u don't feel anything, than the pump is bad.

Gas empty. Intank screen clogged. Fuel pump bad. In-line fuel filter clogged. Acclerator pump inop. Clogged fuel line.
I would check to make sure fuel is getting to the pump and from the pump to the carb. Hope it's an easy fix. We often look over the obvious for the hardest. Good luck. Bob

Your welcome. I went through the same thing with my 400. Nasty fuel tank, clogged filters and a bad carb.

Well here is the crazy way I go about this (no fuel @carb). Get a friend and a 5 gallon can of good gas. Hookup gas can directly to carb have friend hold above carb and give it a try. Starts now move to the INLET side of fuel pump hookup gas can again and give it a whirl. :-[It just breaks down you toubleshooting a little. I have seen it all in tanks, mice, rags, corn shucks, 3 inches of mud you name it. A bad tank will give you fits and a heafty bill (carb- fuelpump) good luck mike
