I see that Year One has a rebuild service. Anyone know a good source for the do it yourself kit?

I see that Year One has a rebuild service. Anyone know a good source for the do it yourself kit? Hey Brock: It's my understanding that Year One is not really a rebuild service, per se, but they sell you Remanufactured upper and lower hinges (for 66-70 and 71-72 B-bodies), and you send in YOUR hinges for a core--or else pay a core charge of 150 bucks. The difference being that the set you buy is not the set you sent in. It's still 171 dollars a set for the remanufactured set, which--like everything else of Year One's is a little high, in my opinion...but hey, they are "ready to install and paint". ;D I have some other reference sources I'll check for you in the meantime. ~Jer~ P.S. 10 bucks against a bowl of crawfish bisque that "we" get moved to the Paint, Body & Trim section by one of our elite moderators! .....is it a bet?

Just having trouble locating the correct parts. I don't wanna pay $171 for $6 dollars worth of parts + labor. I can rebuild them myself. Well Jer, I didn't even get to accept your bet before I lost Just for fun: you got yourself 1 {that's ONE} bowl. Everybody always wants 2nds!!!!! Just messin with ya bro. I got the 72 up on blocks. I'm stripping out the interior. The drivers door glass was broken by vandalous kids with such force that glass shards were found on the other door pad. I have a replacement door glass & was looking at installing it when I noticed the outer weatherstrip can't be replaced with the doorglass installed. This prompted a look through the Year One Catalogue. Parts I want for this part of my cars rehab are: Sideglass Weatherstripping Sill Plates Interior screw pack Outside mirror gaskets Door hinge repair kits Any input on direct sales of any of these parts is appreciated. Why pay the middle man (Year One)?!

Nah....I'm getting 2...nobody can eat just one bowl, Brock!!
A sad fact of life, Bro, but I'm finding that there are a lot of "vendors" making a lot of money off of us Charger-ites. For example the bench seat hinge covers I just paid 50 bucks with shipping for, that Bob says are all over the car shows and meets for 20 bucks.
A lot of the Ebay "dealers" are middlemen as well, selling Legendary Seats, etc., or "genuine Mopar NOS" stuff, or "Concourse grade restoration parts" and a ton of other idioms encompassing a vernacular designed to suck us in, wallets first.
What are they going to do when we have all the Chargers restored, or stripped or crushed and we're all happy with what we're driving?
My new motto is going to be: "If Tom can't get it....I Ain't Buyin' It!!"
Glad to hear that you've finally entered the strip stage of the restoration process....feels good, huh!!

............Glad to hear that you've finally entered the strip stage of the restoration process....feels good, huh!! Yeah it does Door panels, upper quarters, sill plates, kick panels, front seats & rear lower seat are out now ;D Once I get the trash on the floor sorted (don't wanta throw away any usable parts that the vandolous kids may have left laying about) and cleaned up, I'll strip away the carpet & insulation. Then I won't mind getting the rear seatback out. After that, it's on to the rear lower quarter panels, front & rear window trim, C pillars, headliner & finally the dash itself. I should have a 4 speed clutch pedal bulkhead assy in on Saturday. New dash pad is all ready on order. Guess I better get a headliner & carpet while I'm at it

I believe that the Year One hinges are rebuilt by SMS: www.smsmopar.com/public/ProductsSub.asp?cat=2I used late '70s Magnum/Cordoba hinges (they're like the 66-70 hinges) in my car and put in new bushings and pins - total cost $80

Alright, here goes my annual door hinge diatribe.
It all depends on what you are looking for. Fit and function or "correctness"
Upper hinges are the same 71-78?, lowers have 2 distinct styles, 71-73 and 73-78? 73`s can have either style based on build date.
The pin kits to rebuild are sold on Ebay for around $25
The biggest issue with rebuilding the 71-73 lower hinges is that they are usually missing parts. Pins, rollers, springs being the commonly missing parts. Those little parts/pieces are not available to the general public, which makes rebuilding 71-73 lowers yourself a problem. SMS does in fact do YR1`s hinges. Last I looked, they both price them more or less the same.
I bought some of the SMS hinges at YR1 and was quite happy with them. In my case, I was concerned with originality as I bought them for my 72 Rallye. Yes, there is a steep core charge. That is why I pick up junk hinges at JY`s.
If you do not care about "correctness" and want to rebuild a set yourself....I`d suggest getting a full set off a 73-78 B body in a junkyard. When I get them, I usually get them off of the later 75-78 Magnums/Chargers/Cordobas. These lowers are of a simpler design and usually are not missing unobtainable parts/pieces. Just pay attention to the condition of the rollers and S-springs.
