I know it's quite a bit early to be asking this question, but I guess you could say that I'm "future planning and want to get a jump on things" and what not . Anyway, I'm going back mostly original with this car, in that it being a triple black car. Now, granting black is a real mother...... to paint with body being straight, but heck, that's part of the fun, right? ;D. Anyway, my question is, since this car will be on the street, cruise ins, car shows, how much of each paint would be enough? I know I wanna do a POR15 primer, then probably Jet Black color, then clear coat, but as far as how many coats of each? Would 5 coats of color with maybe 3 primer, and 5 clear?Or would that be too much? I will be putting a black vinyl top back on the car, obvious hence the tripple black part... Also, I will be putting dark window tinting on it, should be nice.

The triple black cars are somewhat rare, the fact that it's a triple black '72 SE originaly 400/auto, only adds some to the rarity....... With it were like this, but a '71 with R/T package, and of course, Hemi.... but beggers can't be choosers....... besides, the Hemi is a little out of my affordable price range, so I'll stick with the big block wedges

yeah a new 440 cost about 10,000 dollars less and they make CLOSE to the same power as the 426.... close but no cigar... i am planning on sticking either a 383 or a 440 in mine and keep the original engine and transmission....

As it's been said, a good 440 will keep up with the Hemi to somewhere around 60, but after that . I would like to have a Hemi, or do a Hemi head conversion on a 440, with Pro Gram 4 bolt conversion kit... But either way, a little outta my price range. The 383 and 400 are nice top end motors, make 'em a stroker motor, and they only get nicer. 440 is a really nice motor, great bottom end, stump puller pretty much, build it right, and it'll hurt you some by pinning you in the seat real hard, , at least my '69 would . There's another big block I need to go check out sometime today, depending on what the guy wants to do with it, depends on what rout I take. I know it's a big block, but I didn't get close enough to see what it is when I was over there last. But it looked like it had been stripped down to a short block, but I wanna say the heads were sitting to the side.... But that's another story.
