I know it's the last of my concerns, but when completed I plan on having A/C on my 73. Going from a 318 to 400, I don't know if there were differences in the A/C wiring harness. I never had the 318 motor, but it appears the original harness was stretched out to work on the 400. A new 400 wiring harness was one of the first items I bought about 2 years ago. But the A/C wiring wasn't made into it. I don't even believe it is still hooked into the old harness. So I just bought both the underdash and underhood A/C wiring harnesses for the 73, it didn't show different for different engines. Is it going to plug into somewhere on the new engine harness I have or will I have to splice in something? I would hate to have to hack into a new harness. I also might decide to switch to the Sanden compressor instead of the RV-2 if all other original components can be reused. How will changing compressors effect wiring?

I attached/taped the compressor wire on engine harness together. Dunno if replacements engine harness are on that way and in fact don't really know how are the original engine harnesses. I just used my criterial to make it. I made by myself the engine harness. I have found along the years the A/C wiring setup was made on very different ways. For example, 71/72 blower and compressor wires were on Tranny harness plug. A 73 from a friend of mine used any empty cavity on bulkhead to run A/C and Compressor wires since tranny was not anymore with two empty cavities available, because NSS ground was needed to the seatbelt buzzer and light inside the cab and used one of the tranny cavities. Then used one of the wiers on tranny plug and the other one on engine harness. 74 was added another wire to starter and reset button stuff ( interlock ) so now only rest one empty cavity on bulhead, then blower and compressor wires are at least on my setup on a separated gromet on firewall at a side of bulkhead... ( dunno how was made the tach setup on 74s... maybe using the tranny empty cavity ? ) diagram show my setup, but dunno really how was originally from fact the dryer/omprssor hook up. the only fact I have is both wires running up dryer are still the original ones and I just added the terminals. Wiring was busted out on my car when I got

Good question. If I remember right, the '69 Charger R/T I had with 440, I replaced the engine wiring harness, it had a blue? wire lead that went to the A/C compressor? Since the A/C was no longer there, thanks to the previous owner, I never bothered with the wire, however I did have to modify it for a couple of select reasons ... But anyway, I sent off an order for engine harness, and A/C harness, amoung another harness or two for my '72, when it gets here, if your question isn't answered by then, I'll let you know what I can. I'm reaplcing my harnesses for several reasons, one it's older than me.... Two it's been ahcked up here and there .

I have a '73 Charger that came with a 400 & A/C. I replaced the engine wiring harness several years ago, but reused the A/C harness.
I had to note the exact position & remove the blue wire spade connector from the old bulkhead plug & put it into the new one that came with the engine harness.
If you change to a Sanden compressor (someone please correct me if I'm wrong) the wiring should be as simple as just splicing the right type of connector for the Sanden compressor onto the A/C compressor clutch wire & hookin' it up. Just be sure to use heat shrink at the splice to keep moisture & corrosion out of the wiring.
