Bob: I'd lose the 5 year old battery...but that's just me! This especially holds true if you're only starting it up (i.e.:recharging the battery) once in a while. That's not a deep cycle battery, like the ones in boats and RV's, and it's really hard on them to just sit and drain for extended periods, recharge, then sit and drain some more...they're not made for that. I'd get a new one every 5 years if I was driving it daily...but as I said, that's just me. I'm not saying this has anything to do with your charging problem, I'm just saying as a matter of preventative and proper maintenance...You wouldn't send our finest out in an M1A1 with a 5 year old battery...would you? [My 7000 dollar offer was only valid IF you get that charging gremlin worked out.] Best of luck with it, Bob! #WaveHi# ~Jer~

check your bulkhead connectors to make sure they are snugly attached, maybe pull them, clean them and reconnect them. Make sure your all leads and power wire attached to alternator are tightly secured.
make sure your alternator belt is on snug. a loose belt can/will cause undercharged battery.

Ok, Saturday changed the oil, spark plugs and jiggled the field wires and pushed on the bulk head connector. Started it up and it's charging again. went for a long drive and never quit charging. We'll see how long this last. Thanks guys.
