Does anyone know how to remove the gas tank filler neck?
I found a piece of the gas cap had broke off somehow and was stuck in the neck, i tried using my fishing skill's to get it out but like most fishing stories it got away and has landed in the tank.
Also how hard is it to drop the gas tank to remove it for cleaning and a inspection?

I took my tank out to replace it eventually from my '72..... All I did was get the vent hoses off, disconnect the fuel feed hose and return line, support the tank, take the straps loose, and slowly lower the tank, anything else there is you will see as the tank comes down. Be careful with the grounding strap that connects the two metal pipes together, one pipe is apart of the sending unit, and the other is the main fuel line that runs the length of the car.... I will be replacing this too...

When pulling the filler tube with the tank check to see if the tube bolts to anything on the body.... I can't remember if mine was bolted or not (probably not) but I can't remember for sure, and besides, the more I think about it, the more my mind seems to add things that might not even be there.... I'm sure if I think about it hard enough, I'm sure I can picture that ol' 361 that got put in my '72 SE ending up being a bit bigger and spark plug wires going through the valve covers , but I don't see that one happening, lol.

lol Nice I have a piece that's bolted to the body that is attached to a ring thats around the filler neck. It goes into what looks like a rubber bushing in the tank. I was thinking abotu giving a pull and a wiggle to see if she moved but i dont want to break anything that i cant see, because with my luck it'll be some rare hard to find piece lol

Being that this is my first third Gen Charger, I have been finding out a bunch of things along the way. Before this one was my ol' '69 Charger R/T, and yes, I do miss it. I could drive it down the road!!!!!!!!!!! Oh well.... LOL. Anyway, my stuff was original and since I wasn't worried (at all) about it, I just went at it since I'm going to be, eventually, replacing it all. Though I like my '72 SE a bunch (except for the rare p.i.t.a. tail light set up....) I would love to have a '71 Super Bee with the Air Grabber air scoop.... Course the Hemi would be nice, but I wouldn't mind have a V code, though at this point, even a 440-4 or a 383-4 would be nice. Auto or manual, doesn't matter to me really, lol. But anyway..... Just watch as you pull things apart, as far as the gas end of things go, to my knowledge, you can find replacement stuff, or used parts should the mishaps happen.... I will still need to find the bracket the the tag bolts too that hinges so you can get to the gas cap, mine rusted out bad, and actually broke off when I went to take a look around behind it....

on my old 71 as well as the 74 I have now the filler is bolted to the "body". the bolt is in the trunk or boot, which ever you call it...other than that, just undo any other hoses attached to filler neck if any, and lined and wire(s) attached to the tank, then just support and lower after removing the anchor straps as mentioned before. not trying to hijack your thread, but can anyone tell me where I can get a new filler neck grommet? autozone, oreillys, advance AND napa are all a no go. any ideas besides/including a dodge dealer? mine is leaking something fierce when I put "too much " gas in it.
