Okay, so getting around to replacing the swiss cheese gas tank I have and I'm curious how to get the nuts off the j-bolts. I can't get a socket or a wrench on the nuts because of the tank and/or straps so what's the secret?

I am pretty sure i used a deep socket on an extension. Bolts didn't stick down that far that I remember. is it a big gob of rust, or just really long bolts?

Mega Parts has the filler neck grommet for $15 and their shipping rates are lower than most other suppliers. You should also check your local Dodge dealer. Often times they have them.

The J bolts are rather long, but the problem is the gas tank straps wrap around and don't allow for clearance on the nut. Can't get a socket up on it or a wrench around it. I'm thinking i may just cut the straps or jbolts whichever has a replacement being made and is cheaper. Patrick

j bolts are available, I got a set from PG Classics, I believe.
I didn't check on straps at the time, since I didn't need them.
I'm pretty sure they ARE being reproduced though....they don't look like too difficult of an item to create or rather to re-create.

Nappa had straps and J hooks in stock up here a couple of years ago. No tanks

note... 74 straps are WAAAY DIFF... the are installed reversed than earlier years, with J hook/bolt mounted between tank and axle
just in case you run to buy some one what says 71/74 B BODY what is not true... needs to be for 74 if you have a 74
