Well this weekend I went to Carlisle and was looking for parts for my 72SE. well I found a set of decent Brogham door panels...in black, well my car is white...anyway...more on that in a minute...I also found two pairs of decent SE tailamp assemblies(WO lenses). as i was looking for others I noticed that the 72's seam to be all pot metal....but the 71,and the 73-74 are all plastic...does that sound right???thats what i determined from what i found.
so now i have 4-5 sets of them, now i need to find a way to repair the corrosion issue in the bulb sockets....well after spending all weekend in Carlisle i think ive found a fix...now i just have to put it to the test.
now for the door panels...Legandary still wont even think about reproducing them or even thinking about repairing mine....unless they have at least 20 confrmed sales to recoupe their costs. they did give me a lead on a company that might take on the project...i might contact them soon and ask them. will post later when i find out more info.

Sorry we weren't able to meet up while you were there Tom. Did you just drive in then go back home, or stay in the area???
Tail lamp housings....certainly not an area of expertise for me Tom. I've only handled the '72 housings out of my car, and it was so many years ago, I don't recall for sure what they were made of. I seem to recall they were metal, but would not want to swear to it.

My 72 's are metal... spme of the sockets are corraded badly as well. removed one since the bulb base was rusted so badly to the socket and the spring was stuck inside it too. I sprayed it down inside and got the base out and the spring to move freely. I will be working on a fix soon as well. May involve cutting and splicing in new socket assembly. Godspeed, JON

Its ok. I was there the whole day on saturday..walked 80% of the 100 acres.and there from 8 till 12:30 on sunday. My son and I made it through the swap meet and barns on Friday, and hit a bunch of things including the show field on Saturday. Didn't put in the kind of hours you are describing though. I really didnt know how to connect with you or any others...oh well, we could try again next year... Sounds like a plan. This was my first Carlisle, but I hope not my last. Had a very good time.

Standard and SE 72 tail light housings are pot metal
71 R/T&500 and 72 Rallye housings are pot metal
All 73 and 74 housings are plastic
standard 71 housings are definitely not pot metal.....
but I don't think they are exactly "plastic either" seems like the are more of a fiberglass type composition.

Was really surprised by how much lighter the 73-4 housings are than the 72s.
Will be good to meet ya next year @ Carslisle HemiTom!!! Keep us posted on the doorpanels.

Hello HemiTom.. I was reading in the first post about you may have come up with a fix for the rusty sockets on the 72 tail lights. Have you had a chance to try it yet?
I did remove the socket from the housing and got the bulb base out. It does now move freely but I am still concerned about the amount of corrosion. I have scraped it off, wifre brushed it with a battery terminal brush and coated it with electrical grease. But I still may just replace it since the groove that the bulb pins twist in are very worn and shallow from the rust. I think this would allow the bulb to move too freely and work only part time.
THanks for any update or ideas you may have. Godspeed, JON

I took my sockets out and put them in acid to remove the rust, it worked pretty darn good came out like new, it is just a pain in the @#$ to get them out with out damaging the housing, it is easier to buy new sockets then try to save the old ones, but I couldnt find any made in the usa, does anyone know of some?
