I should start a 72 "Mock Turtle" registry I`ve never been real convinced that registries are worth the time and effort. Realistically, only a small percentage of remaining cars would ever get registered....so any data analysis of those cars is inherently flawed. (thats just my humble opinion) I get a laugh when I see a 2nd Gen for sale....advertised as 1 of 3.... known to exist......and that statement turns out to be based on a registries information. One legitimate function of a registry that is a big positive is in recording VINS of destroyed cars and "funny business" such as Vin tags and titles being sold on Ebay or elsewhere. This helps identify rebodies.

There really has to be a low supply to high demand ratio before alot of people are willing to participate in a registry. Of course an overall high value of the cars persuades people to start their own concourse restoration. This also is a strong factor in the success of a registry - because now people need to be sure what is real & worth all that dough. I see the people on this site alot more focused on maintaining & enjoying their cars. Until the collective group cares what the boltheads & markings on the wiper motor are to supposed to look like = there won't really be any need for a registry. Maybe someday......In the nice time: lets all just enjoy

it's kind of spooky giving out your car's VIN and whereabouts on the internet. You don't know what kind of things people might do with that information. Anyone remember the "Gone in 60 seconds" remake? They found out where the cars were through public search records, etc. Then they knew where to hunt for the cars. A 1971 hemi Cuda got stolen in that movie. My brother in laws' 94 integra with VTEC motor was stolen last year. A rice burner for sure, but it was a blast to drive. It also was a devastating event for my brother in law, who was forced to drop out of college because of this. Despite the number of times I've watched this movie.... They also had a '70 Superbird, and during the chase scene with "Eleanor" I think I may have seen a blue 3rd gen Charger.....

Any registration system set up would have to have privacy built in to protect the owners. I've been keeping a private registry on 1972 Rallye Chargers for some time now. I record the VIN, engine, trans, spd, color, and any special info in a spread sheet for easy reference. The cars I've collected were all found on the internet (publicly posted pics, etc.) - never from car shows. It is a lot of work, but I do for the enjoyment of it. It's interesting to see the various trends in production. I also own a 1962 Valiant here in Australia, and due to popular demand I started up a very basic registry where people could enter as much or little info as they wished. The main thing needed is the body number...have a look : www.1962valiants.com/register/list.htmlPeter

I'm with you Doright. By body style (coupe) and engine (340) my Rallye is one of only 163 built, from the numbers I've seen. It would be nice to know how many are still around.

There is now a registry for '71 Charger R/T's. It is a great deal of work, but the more cars that can be found & recorded in registry's, the more we can all learn from them. Check it out at www.71chargerrtregistry.com . Registration is free. Car owners can supply as much or little information as they wish. Some members are comfortable with displaying all info about their car, from the vin to pictures & a story about themselves & the car. Others are only comfortable with supplying their car's info & not having it available to public viewing. There is no minimum required for a member's contribution, only what they are comfortable sharing. Everyone has their own feelings about what is dangerous to display on the internet. My opinion is that displaying my vin on the web is no less safe than parking my car at the mall, where anyone could walk up & see the vin on the dash. My point is, there's no wrong answer to the question of what's too much, & all are welcome at the registry web site. The site is not only for members. The info on decoding & info on the car's that have been documented, is available to anyone with an internet connection.

I have no owner info at all stored in the spread sheet. It's just something I set up for my own curiosity. that was more less our try on old 3rd gen site. In fact that was my first attemp being mod... but really wasn't succesfull. Jus got around 60-70 cars info and round 80% was simply out of ebay and detailing pics about equipment.
