I have been reading it with great interest. Those young guys sure did tackle a big project and are doing a real nice job on it. Most people would have run from a project needing that much metal replacement. My hat is off to them. I sure hope that they get it done in time.

What an inspiring project! #2Thumbs# It's very motivating Dave, and--while I'm just a wee bit late to finish mine in time for MY Senior Prom--I should have it done by my 35th Class Reunion this September... I think this is just a fantastic story, and wish these boys all the luck in the world. If you have the time, read it from beginning to end. Dave, I just went back over some parts of their Project Thread that I had skimmed over on the first pass. Man, those kids are happenin', as we used to say! Can you believe some of the rotten metal that they have repaired and/or fabricated replacements for? I was down at the Pawn Shop the other day, just browsin', and there was a Mint Condition Lincoln Buzz Box (225 Amp Welder) for 179 bucks less 25% discount... I'm going down there tomorrow and buying it, and then stopping off for some small diameter welding rod and see about havin' myself a go at some of this stuff.... I thought it was pretty motivational too, Jer. They certainly are gettin' after it. Of course, finding 1) an entire parts car, 2) largely complete, 3) with GOOD sheet metal still on it, 4) and at a yard willing to sell them the whole car...well, that's unheard of around here. That's really saved their butts. Plus they have parts to sell to get some of their money back. An incredible stroke of luck. Personally Jer, I'd take that $150 or so, pass on the arc welder, and save a few more bucks up for a MIG. You will get much better heat control (less panel warpage), much less frustration trying to strike an arc, and a lot cleaner results (as you won't have slag to chip off your weld) with a MIG. A stick welder is still good for the heavy stuff, if you have frame work to do, but IMO, for thin sheet metal work, a little 120V MIG with shielding gas is the way to go. Oh, and watch out for that chinchilla...I hear they can be plenty mean.

fantastic job!!! is something I wanted to make on mine, but since I live in a building, not in a house, with a rented parking place I'm not able to make that kind of job... and there is not a body man able to make that job on an LOGICAL price, so I was convinced I had to make by myself. My car does have some hidden rust spots. I know where are mostly of them, but sure there are still some one more around I haven't discovered yet.
Plus even you se my car very good, there is LOT OF BODY JOB I'm still not convinced about.
I hope someday will be able to make that!
