Getting starting on something I left off 8 months ago.... (on DC), Nacho-RT74 has some nice steps on removing the dash but I had a question with the wire harness. just so I get the terminology related to the actual physical part of it. Should I be removing the harness at this point?

Just pulled mine yesterday. If you are going to remove the whole dash with the wiring still in place, then remove the bulkhead connector. The wiring on the engine side of the firewall needs to come off first. Undo the connectors first, then unbolt the fuseblock/bulkhead inside the car. The whole assembly can be removed as a complete unit. Check for any wires that may have gone through the firewall through a grommet before pulling the dash

you don't need to get those screws, get the nuts of those screws on firewall side ( 2 7/16" hex head nuts ). Screws will keep attached to plastic body

I seem to be down to 2 main steps.
( I think I probably should have done these earlier to prevent the trouble of a sagging dash to deal with, oh well live and learn)
The two parts I'm unsure are rear harness on drivers kick panel (unplug by kick panel?)
and the linkage on the heater controls (just unclip cable from the control arm?)

yes on both
kick panel area has also dome light plug... unplugg. If rear speaker and rear deffog and power windows, those plugs are also there.
remember, door jam ground switches need to be unplugged, both sides
floor dimmer switch ( beam selector ) need to be loosen.
any vacuum line ( A/C cars ) from control
speedo wire
any acc harness going throught firewall gromet... some needs to be removed from firewall, some are enough just unplug from main harness ( like cruise control, hideaways ) and will be able to keep on firewall, but some are almost mandatory to remove from firewall, ( like AC harness on 74s and some late 73s )
console light harness ( actually is just one orange wire ) at passenger side kick panel.
Brake pedal wires. they have a small clip attached to pedal brackets assembly.
that's all I can remember right now.

Okay... thank you very much! On the pad itself.... I have it off now, would it be recommended to use SEM on it to soften it up and add a newer look? Also, there is one small slice in the dash. Almost razor-like thin. (actually it seems I should have increased the thickness of the red circle I drew too) Is there a patch or vinyl repair kit to use?

The factory service manual is the best money I spent on the interior. It has good pictures and moderately useful instructions. I would recomend getting a paper copy.
