Hi guys, OK, I decided to open up the 440 engine just to see what was in there while its out for bodywork n paint. First thing I noticed was there is some kind of splash plate between the crank n pan. I ASSUME it gives more power when the crank doesn't splash the oil pool???

Stampings on a crank lobe. Again, assume its a balancing thing??? Crank looks a bit beat, has some battle scars on her and lots of drilled holes at different locations(balance) and other stamped marks. Any ideas?

You have a windage tray. It scavenges excess oil off the rotating assembly.

Oh, OK. Thanks. Are they common? Stock? HP 440s did come stock with windage trays!! Not sure what year they stopped or if they stopped for that matter Your windage tray does not look stock though. I have 1 i bought in 86 - oh, i don't know. At 150 in the attic: i'm not gonna search for it to see: not till November! Doesn't matter! Use it!!!!!!!!! That crank though. Looks to be aftermarket. Of all the old school cranks I have collected: None are that crude. 1 comes close. Seller swore it was a factory 340 Forged replacement crank. I ain't using it (only because i have options though) Hey, as long as it's strait & the plastigage shows a desirable bearing clearance

as far I know the main subject on the windage tray is BESIDE the oil stuff, help on internal winds for vacuums between pistons... hence the name WINDAGE
