Oh My! I can post in this thread now. Checked the accelerator pump on my BOGGY Holley Carb......it seems to be working fine. Tried to get a fuel filter for the car at work a few days ago....but all we had was cheap plastic ones. Adjusted the timing on the car too. Almost forgot to disconnect the vac advance......OK,OK....I did initially forget, but remembered before I had tightened the distributor back down. Need to get a adjustable timing light to check total advance at higher rpms. I hooked up a vac gauge to booster nipple while car was running. Was at 14 before I adjusted timing, 16 after. Since the 600 CFM carb is really too small anyway, I am probably just going to buy an new 750 Street Avenger when I get the money. ($400)

However....I know it is really too small for the engine anyway. Once I get it replaced, I will let you know. Do you think the 750 CFM Street Avenger is a good choice for the 440?

Noticed that previous owner had vac advance hooked up to manifold vacuum...... Fixed that bumped up idle speed a touch to help make car a bit more drive-able for now.

Tom I run a edelbrock 750 vacuum secondary on my mild 440 and it works well, pulls to 5500 with lots of fuel. A good friend of mine has the holley 770 on his new stroker small block chevy that is now in his 67 p/u and so far its been taken to around 7000, and works great as well. As far as I'm concerned a well tuned 750 cfm or so will be what you need. Go with the brand that you like and can get the best price on, and your off to the races

I really have no brand preference. Just something I can buy, install, and run straight out of the box, with minor/normal adjustments. Since the car seems to have a stock built 440, I think those are reasonable expectations. My only previous experience with a Edelbrock was a manual choke Performer I had on a 71 back in the early 90's. I guess it was okay, but I do prefer an electric choke. I plunked down $20 and bought a Holley carburetor book at work on Saturday. It has been good reading so far. In the past, I have read a lot of negative comments about the Edelbrock Performer carbs. That was kind of shying me away from buying one of those. After doing further reading and research, I think most of those complaints are from people who are attempting to run them on High HP applications. I talked to one of the retail guys at work Saturday about special ordering me a carburetor from Summit. Looks like I may be able to do that and get a good price. Well under Summit normal list price. I will be getting the details on that Monday morning.

I think your exactly right about the Edelbrock. I bought it because it came out of the box, bolted on the engine and fired right up with no screwing around. My experience is your always pissing around with the Holley. The Eddy was never made for high end engines, just a improvement over stock like our engines. I am planning down the road to built a stroker roller 440 for my 74, and I will be running a Demon or something like it, not the Edelbrock. Cheers

i never have to play around with my holleys i think carbs ar a matter of preference for a stock engine either will work fine the best deal at summit is the rebuilt holley it is redone at holley and i have never had a better deal than the one i got at summit it was 235.00 or so and appears and runs just like new! comes in a holley box and is all set up to go. it's a can't miss if you just want to buy one
