I'm getting opinions from all different forums. So I want to try here too. I've got a 400 bored .040 over with flat top pistons, CS-661 Sealed Power cam, 73 heads, 73 intake, 73 hp exhaust manifolds, Accurate Ltd dual exhaust kit. My mechanic has tried out two different remanufactured Thermoquads. The 73 correct 6321s which I had sent off to be restored by carb-xchange. He says this one runs the better of the two but still too rich. The 6322s is 73 correct but for a 440. All jets/metering rods are factory numbers. He says there are no vacuum leaks at the manifold or elsewhere, the choke is working but still too rich. He said it maybe in the jets. He said he can rebuild it with some more jets or for me to get an Edelbrock like a 625 or 650CFM. If this Thermoquad was originally 800CFM how would a carb at 650CFM work out? What's the best option an Edelbrock 600CFM or a 625CFM Demon? I'm just going to drive it around not race it. But I want it to be as powerful as it was in 73 if possible. The guy at Summit said the cam I have would work better with a 600-650CFM carb. Which one will bolt up easiest being able to use the factory fuel line and air cleaner? I want to keep the factory fuel line and air cleaner. Anything else that would work or what should I do rebuild this carb again with smaller jets? It's costing me at least $200 everytime because if I buy another carb I can't return it.
