My 20 plus year old craftsman Timing light stopped working . It was my fathers light. It don't owe me anything. I'm going to look for one that doesn't break the bank and can give me an rpm reading. What are you using ? Suggestions? I'm going to start researching . Sent from my PC36100 using proboards

Yeah, I have a lot of Craftsman tools. I guess companies are not going to make them to last this long anymore. A company called Innova that makes them in a range of prices and features popped up on amazon. Mostly great ratings but most people don't use these tools constantly so I look for the older posts. I started researching user ratings on Amazon. I always go right for the ( one ) star ratings. I look for consistency. The same issue over and over from different posters. I stay away from those. I found a number of posters timing lights stopped working after a few uses. I also try to sort out the nit pickers and complaints that have no bearing on the product itself. This process is all part of the fun when buying a new tool . . I didn't realize a timing light could have so many features. Rpm reading , battery, alternator and more. I should say up front that I am very hard on tools. When I managed to break a fairly expensive 10 lb slide hammer, the Cornwell tool man was in utter disbelief. When I first starting working as a mechanic in 1997, I had a basic Craftsman timing light. It went bad in a year or two. Probably more due to abuse than anything else. At that point, I started buying cheap ones where I worked (pep boys) so I could return them easily if/when they broke. Probably swapped it out twice in the next 12 years. I forget the brand name.....just know it has a red plastic housing. I do remember the cord on one getting snarled in fan of a running engine once...... I don't really like the units with a lot of bells and whistles. Especially the adjustable ones. I have on more than one occasion, improperly set the timing on a car because I forgot to zero out the dial, before using it.
