The guy who posted this pic on Deviant Art says it's a 72 SE, but AFAIK the bumper fillers didn't show up till 73, and the tailights are 73-74. The tail lights might fit on a 72 but from what I gather on forums, the 73-74 bumpers stick out a little further (now that I look it's real obvious the rear bumper sticks out), so the filler probably wouldn't fit on a 72. I definitely don't know everything about these cars though! The rear quarter panels do look more 72 . . .

72 (SE) was the only year with those style quarter windows. My vote is 72 with various other year pieces on there.

odzking - What non-72 parts do you see?
Tom - What changes were made to the doors for 73?

72SE with deleted vinyl top
NON 72SE parts on the pic is the full bumper assembly ( tail lights and rubber bumper filler ), beside the quarter edge trim
73/74 doors are diff from 71/72 beside the diff height ( 73/74 are around 1.5" lower on rear ) the body lines are continuous... 71/72 get a break on both body lines

this would be a fully correct 72 SE: And this would be a 73/74 SE: I hope you are able to see the door body lines differences on these pics Both made mandatory the vinyl top around quarter glas since the BODY is the same to hardtops/coupes ( on each own year ) than SEs, BUT 72/74 SEs got a body plug filler making a diff shape for quarter glass/windows. This would hide the plug down the vinyl.

Interesting! Did bumper standards change for 73? The recessed bumpers look so much better.

Yes, that's exactly what happened. Work started in 1966 to set bumper requirments and by April of 1971 the first requirements were established. They required the 1973 models to be able to sustain a 5 mph front impact and a 2 1/2 mph rear impact without damage. The requirement changed again for the 1974 model year when both front and rear impacts of 5 mph without damage were required.
What Chrysler did on the Charger, since the 71-72 bumper configuration resulted in body damage at the specified impact speeds, was to add space between the bumper (face bar) and the body panels. This passed the impact tests but left a rather noticeable gap between the bumper and the body. The solution was the addition of what we have come to know and love as the "filler strips" which fade and crack with age and are a real PITA to find replacements in good condition.

since the 71-72 bumper configuration resulted in body damage at the specified impact speeds, I've never felt particularly good about the gas tank being so close to the bumper . . .

Yes, very clear on the 72 the door lines. Here is the 72 parked next to me at Carlisle and mine.
