Hey all.. so.. I'm kicking myself right now for not bookmarking the site I found a while back, and it's driving me nuts! Several months ago, I found a website that had steel hoods, and they would add whatever scoop you wanted to them. I specifically remember they stated that the hoods would use the original hinges and hood latch, and the scoops could be made functional. Also, they offered an adapter "plate" for the air cleaner that could ONLY be ordered with the hood, and they stated explicitly that you could not order it after the fact. For the life of me, I cannot find that site again! Basically, what I am looking for is steel hood with a six pack scoop that can use all the original hardware. I would be okay with a fiberglass hood, but I am not a fan of hood pins. I'd even be willing to just add the scoop to my hood, but I've heard that adding fiberglass scoops to steel hoods usually doesn't end well (ie: cracking paint, color fading at different rates, etc..). ANY help in this area would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! Dave

There are guys who can fab this sort of thing in steel but they get big dollars and are usually booked for years so even if there is such a site I can only imagine the cost. The shape of the 6 pack scoop would be very hard to replicate and to form it in a piece of steel that large would be a nightmare. If you really want the Burn Notice look I would buy a hood from A and A or Unlimited Fiberglass and have them bond the scoop on. These will be raceweight and need a lot of blocking but imagine taking 75 lbs off the nose of your Charger. The days of adding a hood scoop and have it cracking are pretty much over if you buy the product and gun to glue it on. We glue on bed sides and everything anymore with what is called panel bond. The hardest part of adding a scoop to your car is the body line in the middle but go slow and file/sand till it fits. Prep the scoop and metal by grinding clean , add glue and screw it down. Let it set up, remove screws and repair like any other bodywork. A tip I would also add is to source a 4-5" holesaw and put 2 large holes under the scoop instead of cutting it all out. This is what Chrysler did for the Duster scoop, looks nice, retains strength and really doesn't give up performance. I forget what the ratio is but the amount of air intake needed is correlated to the hp of the motor and it really doesn't take a large hole to flow that much air. A cheap air cleaner to hood seal would be to use the stock air cleaner and source a Chevelle cowl hood seal or use a 14 round generic performance cleaner and use the 67-69 Camaro seal. Just something to think about but adding anything to the hood of your car is an obstruction to view and warrants a ticket in most states if the local badge wearers deem it so.
