I have factory A/C on my car and was wondering about removing the compressor and hoses but wanted advise first. The compressor is squealing and I'm sure I have a pin hole in evaporator coil and there is no charge on the system. I really don't want to replace coil or spend money on system in general I had just as soon take it all off and get it out of the way. I could keep all the parts for future if I wanted to put them back but for now just clean up engine to make it easier to work on. Anyone have ideas about this please tell me.

While I have not done it myself, I've seen many a car with the a/c removed. I think the biggest challenge is getting your accessory belt drive right with the compressor gone. Aside from that, I would think it would be pretty straight forward.

I guess it would be a good idea to seal off hose openings in case I want to go back with it. By the way it is a 440 and from what I see all I need are shorter belts. I saw the thread below me but I think my situation is a little different, I've either got to take compressor off or replace it because it squeals and I really don't want to buy one.

Well I'm thinking my belts might be squeaking instead of compressor, it's really hard to tell what's making the sound. Besides if I take off compressor I will have belt issues it looks like. I'll make sure if its belts first before I do anything else. It would be nice if a/c worked, it gets awful hot here in he summer but then again I don't haft to drive it when it's hot either.

Spray wd40 or brake clean on the belt while its running. Squeal goes away its the belt. Take the belt off and spin the compressor by hand, if its making noise with the ac discharged/disengaged its likely a bearing in the clutch.

A little less messy than WD40. But I love WD40!

The thought has crossed my mind when working on the engine. Then I come to my senses. lm eaving everything in mine even though it doesn't work. There is a line missing from the firewall to the vapor canister.
Even if it means buying a new compressor. Once it comes off it will likely never go back on. Its always nice to see the original set up when you open the hood.
