Would anyone be able to tell me how I could remove the sockets from my taillights, in the fiberglass housing? Can you remove these without damaging them, mine are corroded.is there a special tool or an article that references the removal?

do you mean the plastic housings ?...
They are pressed in. Will need to pry up the front "lips" and remove from back.
Now, which one is a good replacement ? there IS NOT a good replacement for them really. Any replacement will need to be worked to make them fit ( &/or work the housing )
aside this, all replacements are made to be grounded through metallic housings, so will need to sold a ground wire to them. Unless you use a plastic socket replacement which already gets the ground wire on pigtail

Nacho is spot on! I have even checked a few places to rechrome mine and they won't touch them because the sockets are moulded in.

well, remove them, rechrome and reinstall. On my passenger side back up socket was damaged. Found a broken tail light but decent sockets. removed the one I needed from it and reinstalled on my actual tail light housing. Not pretty or clean instalation when you remove the lense and bulb because lips are not perfect, but works

I found a Dorman socket that was real close and JB Welded it in. Also had to solder a ground wire to it. Thought I posted about it before. I can come up with the part # if need be.

71se3834v if you come across a part # on that socket at some point that'd be appreciated. NACHO always great information, thank you.

No problem finding it. I keep a file with all my receipts. Dorman #85803. The tags on it will hold long enough for some JB Weld to dry. Solder a ground wire on first. Should be able to find at most local auto parts stores.

Most of replacements available everywhere are based on these: www.oemsurplus911.com/automotive/ligtsockets.htmYou could try even modify the housing to acept twist in sockets allowing you replace bulbs without remove lense this is a good option, recreating the same metallic assembly from back side with the rubber boot for exterior use ( waterproof ): www.oemsurplus911.com/automotive/lightsockets/8597.htmthey state for 1057 bulbs should use PS-99. But once again, this is just an idea and will require to mold the housing to accept the twist in socket. Doesn't need to sold the ground wire thought
