i have a 71 superbee with 340 and stock manifold and thermoquad carb. i was wondering which edelbrock manifold would be best to increase h.p. the performer , performer rpm or air gap. i believe the performer is a spread bore but i would need a adapter for the rpm and air gap which are square bore. i i didnt know if the adapter would hurt hp. my motor has comp cam. 1600 to 5800rpm. duration at.050 224 intake 230 ex. 477 lift intake 480 ex. it has 3.55 gears and 2700-3000 converter. the car is mainly street driven and not raced.just looking to pick up a few extra hp.also what would be the best way to hook up choke on the edelbrock manifolds. thanks rocky

The performer is not more than a minimal step up to the stock one. It is in fact a pretty much twin to the stock spreadbore manifold ( except for the diff plane order ), but a tad higher giving a bit ( tiny bit ) longer runners. Well, big block performers are at leas that bit higher ( BTDT ). Dunno if small blocks too.
RPM AND airGap are as far I know the same intake. The oficial name is actualy Performer RPM as far I recall.
Carb adapters don't actually hurt but helps, making a higher ventury effect to the mixture. There are in fact engines built with spacers just right for the higher ventury effect a higher assembly gives.
Need to say I'm not a mech or tech, but stuff I constantly read around.

it sounds like the performer rpm might be best for my application. just wonder whats the best way to hook up choke. thanks for the information

"i was wondering which edelbrock manifold would be best to increase h.p. the performer , performer rpm or air gap." A blanket answer, considering none of your variables, would be the Performer RPM Air Gap. A more detailed answer would be...Depends on what you want to do. Will you have a hotter cam, better flowing heads, and better exhaust to support a higher flowing intake, and an increased RPM powerband? A looser converter and better good rear axle ratio? I assume based on your question you want a dual plane. If yes, the Performer RPM Air Gap option for the 340... www.edelbrock.com/shop/intake-manifolds-main.html?edelbrock_series_multi=13007&efm=12766_3612&efn=3626&efs=3685...is very tempting. But as you have pointed out, it gives you no provision for heating the bimetallic factory choke spring (assuming you are planning to keep and tune your factory Thermoquad). You would have to rig up an electric assist, or go manual (or no) choke? Not sure. There's also the Std. Performer RPM, which comes with similar choke and adapter issues. www.edelbrock.com/performer-rpm-small-block-chrysler-intake-manifold-7176.htmlMOPAR LA engines are not supported with a Performer Air Gap (just small block Chevy), so the std. Performer is your only option in that family. As indicated, the factory intake has a pretty good reputation for flow, so it's hard to improve on without resorting to other trick (taller for longer runners, air gap, single plane, etc.). But the Eddy piece will flow as well, if not a skosh better than the factory manifold, and save you some weight, and NOT require an adapter. www.edelbrock.com/performer-318-360-intake-manifold-for-small-block-chrysler-la-series-engines-2176.htmlIf you are not hooked on Eddy intakes, but still want something made in the USA, you might consider the Weiand (say Why-And) Action + intake for the LA engine. It appears to match up with the Eddy Performer, including having a spread bore flange. www.holley.com/products/engine/intake_manifolds/carbureted_intake_manifolds/dual_plane/parts/8007WNDIf you need more breathing and RPM potential, the Weiand Stealth appears to be the better choice. www.holley.com/products/engine/intake_manifolds/carbureted_intake_manifolds/dual_plane/parts/8022WNDNeither Weiand intake has a factory style choke well that I can see. There's a comparison article by Steve Dulcich HERE.

If you are buying an Edelbrock in the next week, try this! 10% off select in-stock intake manifolds
