I found the video in this section from 2008 about using Helicoils for stripped threads. I just received my transmission pan kit and noticed that 3 of my bolts just keep turning. Obviously stripped threads. My question is, has anyone used these since 2008 on any of your components. If so, was it as easy as the video showed. I would like to order a helicoil kit for the tranny pan and also for the oil pan. I'm gonna install a new oil pump with new pickup tube also. Thanks

Not sure what the kit includes but auto stores sell them by the size of the bolt. Correct size drill bit, tap, inserts and the tool to install it. I've used them many times mostly on small engine stuff. Pretty easy to do. I dought you'd need it for the oil pan since the block is cast iron and less likely to strip. If you lived closer I most likely have what you need.

Been watching you tube vids on this and it seems pretty straight forward and easy.

They are a very effective repair for this sort of thing. Be sure to take some photos and share with us how it goes.

I have some trans pan bolts here, from what I don't know, and they are 5/16". That size is very common to need. 3/8" not so much. Mostly used on trans to engine and accessory mounting which don't strip out very often. Taps for all those sizes are very handy to have for cleaning out crud from the threads. Don't know if one of your videos covered it but make sure you lube the tap and turn it back and forth to cut the threads. If you are ever concerned with where the chips are going, like a hole that goes into a passage, you can fill the grooves of the tap with grease and that will collect the chips.

I ordered the complete Helicoil kit that has 4 Standard kits and 4 Metric kits. Got all sizes covered Which Trans fluid would you recommend today? Dextron was the old stuff but with newer products/scientific blends today not sure what to use anymore.

I “helicoided” all the important threads on my transmission. Including the ones not needing this job yet. This means the mounts and the “block throught” bolts. Can’t recall if also the starter relay provisions.
The “block throught” bolts were already stripped, so I decided to make them all at once. Oil pan threads were nice thought and didn’t helicoided those.
