My car came factory with a 22" Rad......440 car, seems small but car was originally from Sudbury Ontario....and it is somewhat cool there all the time...
So can I bolt a 26" rad right in place?.......I know I will have to change the rad shroud........
Anything else?..
Thanks

I think it would be easier to modify a 22" support for a 26" radiator though. If only because metal is being removed - as opposed to adding metal. Actually, now that I think of it, making extra flange pieces to fit the wider opening would be more difficult - but who's gonna go for a smaller opening Might be easier to go with a custom aluminium radiator.

They make new radiator supports, you order one side or complete it all depends on how much money your willing to spend

anybody have pictures of the different openings? Man I have the whole thing painted around rad saddle I guess maybe I will have to go with a custom alum rad that will cool the beast any body else have a 22"? I guess I assumed they just fit either or....kinda crazy that they would have two different saddles?.........or why 22" rads at all I think it would have easier if the rad had wider flanges on the 22" and narrower on the 26"? Ah well Thanks Guys

I think it would have easier if the rad had wider flanges on the 22" and narrower on the 26"? That's how the radiator on my Duster is. Wider side flanges to block the larger rad. opening in the core support.

Don't feel bad. My 318 Challenger came with a 19" rad. (in a 22" opening).
I hear good things about the new aluminum rads, even the 22's. I see cheap ones on fleebay that bolt right in.

I just went out and checked the rad on my '74. I have the smaller radiator. The opening sure looks to be able to house the larger rad. The flanges on the rad block 4" of the opening. Oddly the radiator is not centered in the opening, but definitely centered with the motor. I still have the original fan shroud. The driver side flange blocks the opening 3 1/4". The passenger side only blocks it 3/4". The opening is off center to the left. Weird, I never noticed before. I believe it to be the original radiator, as I have never changed it and have owned the car since '79. The radiator shroud opening for the larger radiator must not be centered to the middle of the radiator. It looks to me to be a direct bolt in with the correct shroud.

My 72 Rallye U code also came factory with the 22" rad. Since my car is some what of an oddity I wanted to go with the factory stock look so I found a factory correct rad and had it restored, yeah I spent alot of money since these things are hard to find but its the look I want. Hopefully I won't have overheating problems

I think you done good Stan Afterall it DID work well when your car was born Even some of the 440+6 cars in 70 & 71 had the smaller radiator. I like extra cooling - but, I'm in Louisiana: so, it's needed
