Since Jer was wondering about one or two grinders, sounds like a mixed drink, How about showing your buffing set ups?
And where did you find your pads? what width are you using?
I have a 8" setup, on one side for buffing and on the other for cleaning the metal after buffing
I put 3-1/2" pads together to make it wider
Eastwood the last mag I got had 1" width available.

I'm really not sure of your questions
I am useing two buffers a Dewalt and an Elcheapo from Harbor freight both Variable speed buffers The Dewault is a Good machine Makita is Better and quieter too.
I dont care for the elcheapo from Harbor freight while it is a buffer (Kinda) I bought it more for paint striping dutys Its speed adjustment is very touchy and I am sure it wont last all that long be sure you purchase there warranty and keep it handy!
I Use all 3M pads Wool double sided and Velcro hook and loop systems both are good I would recommend the Hook and Loop system as the adapter can be used with the Foam pads as well.
As far as Foam goes I have white Black and the Blue ALL from the 3M system all work good as well.
I would like to try Lakecountry pads and wool I have heard good things about them.
As far as Compounds I use a 3M system and while it works its a 3 step system and most are but I am still experimenting
I have and use Prestas compounds as well and I like Maguires too pros and cons too all books can be written about all three
