Noticed my recent purchase has a points ignition. It definitely has to go. I simply do not care for points. Whats a good/reliable conversion kit? Pertronix? Mopar Performance? If I get the Pertronix, which is my initial impulse...should I bother to upgrade the coil? Ignitor, Ignitor II, Ignitor III ??

I got an itchy finger...and bought a Pertronix II with a replacement "flamethrower" coil. Hope it works out well. $139...with free shipping.

Tom,
While I'm a die-hard Mopar guy, and have always used the Mopar ignition conversion, I've read an awful lot in the last few years about the questionable reliability of the modern ECUs. On the other hand, I've never heard anyone with anything bad to say about the Pertronix. I think you will be happy with that system. Be sure to document and post about the install.

10+ years ago i used ajacobs ignition system, think they been bought out by accel. still works great. One of the best features of the system was that you could also keep the mopar electronic ingnition system too.
If the jacabs system ever failed , 2 plugs and 30 seconds and the mopar system was up and working

Dave, the negative issues that I have read about in regard to the MP units did sway my buying decision. I like performance...but as a mechanic who would rather not be fixing my own cars in my off time....I love reliability. That added to the Pertronix being significantly cheaper......made it a no brainer. Hopefully I made the right choice. I am going to install the Pertronix and (yet to be purchased) new carb at the same time.

Tom, I converted my Internationals points with an electronic ignition conversion using the Pertronix kit.... The truck seemed to have ran better after wards, and sounded a little different too. Now the dang fuel pump has gone out and I don't feel like replacing it right now, so the truck is back to it's sitting phase, that is unless someone comes along and buys it, . Anyway, one of the best things I like about the kit, is that if your current distributor is good (not worn out), you can reuse it, and other than the wires coming out of the distributor, you'd never know about it....

Sounds good. The points distributor in the car looks fairly new.
